Rating: Summary: Hummel: good classical repertoire for variety Review: This book contains a generous amount of Hummel's music, including the three sonatas featured on Stephen Hough's album on Hyperion.
Hummel was highyly regarded in his time and his music played by his contemporaries. Franz Liszt, for example, performed Hummel's piano concertos and even made a piano transcription of Hummel's septet.
After listening to Mr. Hough's CD, I believe the sonatas would be a worthy addition to any pianist's repertoire. They are also a nice departure from the standard classical repertoire (Beethoven and Mozart)and add a freshness to the piano recital.
