Summary: The Absolute BEST!!!
Review: Old Empires has to be the BEST Forgotten Realms accessory ever made! It sheds light on the exotic southern lands and proud nations of Chessenta, Mulhorand, and Unther; lands that very much resemble Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, and Ancient Mesopotamia (Babylon), respectively. Their distinct culture, history, and civilization will win you over for sure!
I have been playing D&D since 1989 and I am proud to say that I have in my collection every Forgotten Realms book/manual/adventure/module/novel that has been published.
Let me tell you, NOTHING, I say NOTHING, compares to the endless hours of gaming enjoyment that I have experienced playing on material presented within the pages of Old Empires!
Ranging from background history, to city and social descriptions, to important people and characters, to the respective gods and pantheons, to adventure hooks and encounter tables, to magical items and artifacts, to new spells and monsters, this accessory has it all and more.
For other FR references/adventures, I STRONGLY recommend: the Dreams of Red Wizards accessory on Thay, the Moonsea accessory, the Ruins of Myth Drannor Box Set, and the Ruins of Zhentil Keep Box Set (they are Second Edition AD&D, out of print and it will take a bit of searching, but it's well worth it). For an updated edition of events in the Old Empires see the Third Edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, which even though is quite expensive, it is still very useful to all FR fans!
In short, if you love Chessenta, Mulhorand, and Unther, try and get your hands on a copy of Old Empires. You will not regret it! Trust me on this one!
