Summary: Excellent resource for classroom and private study!
Review: I chose this book to help me study for my doctoral comprehensive exams, and it has been a lifesaver! It is laid out in a very organized fashion, with plenty of musical examples and illustrations. There is also a set of cassettes you can get that accompanies it. I had originally bought a different book - Music in the Medieval World by Albert Seay but I took one look at it and decided to find another! It had tiny little type and the layout seemed to have no order. The Yudkin, in comparison, is a great book to study from, and it reads very well. In fact, when I began to read it, I felt as compelled as if I were watching some interesting show on the History Channel!
