Rating: Summary: a scholarly treatise on a populist revolution Review: Five stars for effort and for filling-- at least somewhat-- a major gap in the coverage of television history.Mr. Langer's work is an expansive (and expensive) overview of a television revolution that still has not beeen given its due respect. One would have liked to read an account of this genre from the INSIDE... to find out what made these television journalists (and extremists) tick... to get some of the dirt that these shows "dug up" on others... but for now this scholarly treatise will have to suffice. The book has the facts, it has the university opinions... what's missing is the fire, the spark, the soul-- the humor-- that made tabloid TV so vital in its day.
