Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Chaste, but not Quite Captured
Review: Almost shockingly early openly gay novel--how times have changed!

There's absolutely no sex in this, but it's hard to misread the intent behind lots and lots and lots of presents being bought by rich old men for cute young men.

Unlike most novels of the period dealing with homosexuality, there is hardly any angst over the subject, but rather Melrose Place type backstabbing, conspicuous consumption, and betrayal. Fun!

Note: a 3 star ranking from me is actually pretty good; I reserve 4 stars for tremendously good works, and 5 only for the rare few that are or ought to be classic; unfortunately most books published are 2 or less.
