Summary: My cook book staple - have yet to try a recipe I didn't like
Review: Jane brings basic nutrition education and cooking together in a great book. Love all the comments by the reviewer and have yet to try a recipe I didn't like. A substantial cookbook that I use as a cooking basic. Love the book--this is my second copy since the first is so war torn.

Summary: Not only a great cook book !
Review: Not only is this book full of great recipes for good healthy food, it is also a reference for foods' nutritional value, uses, and an interesting way to find out about healthy eating.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: Over 350 great recipes, based on the importance of complex carbohydrates. Includes lots of good advice on planning menus and shopping. Learn to cut down on fats, proteins, sugars, and salts -- to reduce heart trouble, prevent cancer, and lower blood pressure.

Summary: Yum!
Review: This amazing cookbook has wonderful, hearty meals. I don't agree that all the recipes are easy (lots of chopping! which I don't like), but they're good and healthy too! They are definitely worth the time -- and many are not so time-consuming as well. I don't enjoy cooking as much as I enjoy eating, but I endure the cooking to enjoy these delicious meals.

Summary: High carbohydrate diets are not for everyone
Review: This cookbook came out in 1985 at a time when meats and fats were being cited as unhealthy aspects of diet. Brody's recipes correspond to the now controversial food pyramid that encourages the eating of lots of starchy foods, especially if they are "whole grain." Many people will gain weight on such a diet, and have returned to making meat and vegetables the centerpiece of meals. For those who don't gain on high carb, Brody's recipes are well-tested and tasty.

Summary: This book changed my life.
Review: Three years ago I decided to get healthy: change the way I eat, exercise, live. Jane Brody's Good Food Book was given to me as a gift and has been part of my life ever since. Her recipes are delicious. She uses lots of herbs and substitutes bad stuff in traditional recipes with good stuff. It's real cooking for real life.

Summary: Mama Jane rules my kitchen!
Review: We got this book about 10 years ago and it quickly became scripture in our kitchen. We use it constantly, and are always seeking Mama Jane's advice. "What does Mama Jane say about asparagus? What does Mama Jane say about potatoes? What does Mama Jane say about...." Those seeking a miracle weight-loss diet will be disappointed with her evolutionary approach to good health. Those who want sensible advice on how to develop and maintain life-long healthy eating habits will find this book to be inspirational.

Summary: a great book
Review: While high carbohydrate diets may not be the fad these days -- high protein seems to be more "in" -- this book is a truly wonderful cookbook. Jane Brody's approach to nutrition is both sensible and do-able and the recipes are great. The book also includes loads of information on the nutritional content of various fruits and vegetables, how-to tips on cooking, suggestions for stocking your kitchen and substitution tips for those times when you don't have a particular ingredient on hand -- I refer to this book more often than I care to admit for advice! A true must have in the kitchen.
