Rating: Summary: This book changed my life! Review: Look....there are over 400 reviews on this book. They are either 5 stars or they are complainers! There is no way you can use this book, do what he says and not massively improve your body. I've been doing the program for seven weeks and this weekend my grade school buddies told me I was in the best shape of my life. They have known me since I was about ten and now I'm 33. I've gone from a 34 inch waste with 19% body fat to a 30inch waste with 9.5% body fat. It's the first time in twenty years I've been able to see results from my exercise. And the best part of this program is its easy! My workouts now take 20 minutes to 40 minutes max! I workout on the road because I no longer have an excuse not to workout for 20 minutes. The eating program takes effort, but you know what, you get in life what you put in. The supplements which I have been taking for the last seven weeks are awesome! I love them, and you know what they are expensive, but honestly, so is the junk food I use to buy before I read this book. Bottom line, this is not a fad program, its life changing. Go for it!
Rating: Summary: body for life ? Review: Overall, this book is disappointing. Phillips, it seems, is not a real hardcore type of bodybuilder guy, nor is this book. It's got great general fitness info, if you an average "joe", but I was disappointed, as this is not a hardcore bodybuilding book. It's good for what it does, general fitness info, but take it as that. If you want nardcore muscle, read Arnold's book, otherwise stick with this book. If you are just starting out, buy this book, it will help you. if you are an advanced bodybuilder, well the weight is on your back, and you know where the rack is !
Rating: Summary: Body for Life: 12 Weeks to Mental and Physical Strength Review: ONLY FOR THE MOST DISCIPLINED! If you have the time to document everything you eat and all the exercise you do along with the discipline to plan out six very concise meals a day, then this program is for you. Body For Life is a very difficult way for the average person to live. Bill puts forward a very structured program that must be followed to the letter or it does not work. As a mother of 3 little kids, I guarantee you that this program will only work for those of you who have alot of time in your day to dedicate to fitness. In the beginning it sounds like an easy way to lose weight but it's not.
Rating: Summary: Body for Life: I Dont Think So Review: This book will not help someone who is looking to change their lifestyle for more than 12 weeks (If you can stick to the program that long). The manner in which the program expects you to eat is impossible for any normal person (unless you love nutitional shakes). The only thing that this book will give you is a hole in your wallet.
Rating: Summary: WARNING: This Book Could Be Hazardous To Your Wealth! Review: Having competed in one of Bill Phillips $1 Million Challenges, subscribing to his Muscle Media magazine, reading his book and spending over $1,000 on EAS nutritional products I can't honestly recommend that you buy this book. The logic Bill uses is definately good, but it takes forever to get to the point! As in his magazine, he tickles you with a feather all the way through, but never reveals the "secret". This might sound like sour grapes, but all I am urging you to do is watch your wallet! There are pleanty of sources out there for this information on the net, and best of all, they're FREE (ie, See Lee Labrada's site. Did you know that several of the past EAS $1 million champions followed this diet as opposed to Bill Phillips?). Buyer Beware!
Rating: Summary: Folksy Style, but a Powerful Message and Technique Review: This is the one self-help / fitness book that really hit home for me. I was able to follow Mr. Phillips program over 12 weeks and lose 25 pounds. In the process I felt much better physically and mentally. I have been able to keep the weight off (mostly) and I intend to start another 12-week program to continue my weight loss. The book contains very sensible and easy-to-follow advice. It obviously worked for me. I've been recommending the book to friends and family ever since.
Rating: Summary: It Changed My Body Review: I am a Marine Officer (13 years in) and have been a physical fitness nut for most of that time. I could run 9 miles in 1 hour 5 minutes, or hike 25 miles with full gear in 8 hours then be ready to fight..and I was still fat. I could run all I want, and all I got to be was a smaller pear shape....but as the years wore on more and more running failed to keep my body fat down, and that pear shape expanded. Last October, after running the Marine Physical Fitness test, and beating every other Marine in the unit in the 3 mile run portion of the test, I put on my "Charlie" uniform, which is much more revealing than camoflouge utilities; I was humiliated by the bulges of fat circling my waist, the almost breaking tightness in my trousers. I realized at that point that my knowledge of physical fitness and body management was all wrong. What I was doing was not working; I got a hold of Bill Phillips' book Body for Life and my body has changed dramatically since then. I am 2 months into my "Transformation Challenge" and have lost 12 lbs of my body fat and replaced it with 6 pounds of muscle. I look like an athelete now, and and I cannot wait to see what another month holds. My wife and I are doing this together (a lot of couples do) and it has helped us both enormously. Most exciting is that our success has motivated 2 other couples to try it as well. If you are wrestling with body composition, if what you are doing is not producing the results you desire, I urge you to spend the $14 to buy this book
Rating: Summary: Apparently it works for some people, but it didn't for me Review: Many Americans are overweight, and it seems that the majority of people who have given Phillips' work positive reviews wanted to lose weight. I'm just the opposite: I've been skinny all my life, and my body doesn't respond in any particular way whether I work out or not. I did follow this program for twelve weeks, but the result was not nearly as spectacular as the published testimonials would lead us to expect. I didn't find the diet part of the book too hard to follow, as I generally eat this way all the time. I simply cut my regular three meals per day into six, with the total amount I consumed per day remaining equal. Except that I use no supplements (the program recommends, but does not require, them) I followed the program to the letter, alternating between aerobic and weight training as Phillips recommends. After twelve weeks, I had gained some muscle mass and lost some body fat, but the difference it made to my physical appearance was negligible; one would be hard-pressed to tell you which photograph was my "before" picture and which was my "after"! I think that Phillips is doing the majority of his readers a disservice by promoting his "challenges", and publishing the winners' pictures. Most people are not going to look anything like the "after" pictures once they have completed twelve weeks of this program. I suspect a marketing ploy here: Many folks will probably think that the problem lies in something THEY did or did not do, and rush out to buy Phillips' NEXT book! This represents the most cynical type of salesmanship, making people feel like failures, then selling them "information" on how not to be. My own suggestion to anyone who is considering embarking on a program to become more muscular is not to waste time or money on this book. Both would be better spent on a gym membership and a competent personal trainer. She or he can provide all the information that's in this book, plus tailor a program to your particular needs.
Rating: Summary: Dedication will provide amazing results! Review: This book is amazing. It teaches you to train smarter, not harder. I have cut the amount of time I am in the gym by half and have seen more results than in 2 yrs of training. I finished the 12 weeks during the winter and will never revert to my old eating and exercise ways. In the process of finding myself I have dropped 15lbs of fat and lost 2-3 dress sizes. I do purchase the myoplex lite shakes but have only bought 3 boxes in 7 months. They are great for when you need a convience item. Anyone who is skeptical needs to give this program a try. There is absolutely nothing to lose. Good luck...
Rating: Summary: Great for beginning body builders! Review: Great book for those with less knowledge of subject re: health/food/exercise/nutrition needs for lean body mass, etc. Hard to fit author's regime in my 13 hour work day 4 days a week. Hey..I'm a hard working mom...less time to devote.
