Summary: Diabetics fight back!!!
Review: Fighting with Diabeties for years, I figured that my life would be short. I was taking two medications and still had a glucose count of 160 to 200, some days was up 380 to 400. tic. count was in the 1200's etc.. you get the picture. I tried watching what I eat. No deserts, only diet soda's, veges etc. I was weight lifting, all was a losing battle. I tried and still On the Atkins diet for 3 week's my bllod count is on an average of 124 and nearly constant *** without medication ***. trig. levels dropped considerably. My visions has cleared and I can sleep at nights. My energy has increased. Tridational health diets nearly killed me. My blood counts speak for themselves, I'm not hungery. Do I miss pasta? Hell yea, what Italian wouldn't. I'll have some once every few months. But hey, I do love sausage and cheeses and I have lost about 13 lbs and continue to lose body fat. I also find that I am recovering from weight ligting fast and building muscle quickly. My wife has lost 15 lbs. in two weeks and she is also diabetic. Her suger level is down to 106 without meds.

Summary: It's great!.... I feel great!
Review: I tried this diet after I went to the docotor and found that I had gained 13 pounds in the last year. After going over my diet..my low fat diet, we found that I ate way too many carbs and sugars. Bagels with non fat cream cheese...turkey sandwiches, cereals. Everything I thought was right, was wrong for my body. I decided to try just one more diet and I am amazed. My cravings for chocolates and food when I am not hungry have ceased. I eat less, and feel totally satisfied, and I have lost 21 pounds in just under four weeks! I too am not an egg eater, but enjoy delicious chef salads, grilled chicken breast smothered with mushrooms and swiss cheese, sauteed shrimp, mushrooms and garlic, sugarfree sparkleing jello with real whipped cream! All it takes is some experimenting. My co-workers have seen an improvement in my mood, as well as my body form that I am starting a support group at work and so far have over 10 people who have asked me about the diet and are going to have a bi-weekly weigh in. Give it a try, It's been an exciting four weeks for me!

Summary: Bacon and Eggs again?
Review: I was only 20 lbs. or so over my "ideal" wt. however my sweet tooth always won me over. I tried the diet for the full two week period and found that I was quite satisfied with the food choices, but bacon and eggs every day? It becomes too much. Anyway, I have lost a total of about 15 lbs and am down to 184. I did'nt have a lot to loose, but it did work.

I did have my colesterol screened after being on the diet about 3 weeks and I was significantly higher than usual, but the "good" cholesterol was also higher than usual....thus there was no net gain in "bad" bad cholesterol.

Anyway...It works and I strongly encourage even those people with only 10-15 lbs to loose to try the diet.

Remember....Always see your doctor before trying this diet.

Summary: A little leary to try this diet...
Review: I don't know whether or not to try this diet as it completely, or nearly completely eliminates carbohydrates from your diet. Carbo starving may work at first and deliver incredibly fast weight loss results, but what are long term consequences of following this diet, like health troubles...very interesting concept though when he discusses ketosis. Worth a read at least.

Summary: Very Interesting!!!
Review: The book no doubt is very interesting to read. However there's not much calcium you get from this diet. I am just on my 3rd day and I'm missing the fruits, milk, yogurt, etc.. Yes it's true that your hunger is suppressed as well as your apetitie which is great. Howevr I am getting tired of eating eggs, bacon, ham for breakfast each day. Also can someone suggest where can we go to get all these cholestrol, triglycerides, tests done. i yet have to get mine done.

Summary: Sorry Nay-sayers this one works.
Review: This really is not a diet per say. The first 14 days are a diet in the traditional sence. After this period you slowly add back some "healthy" carbs, veggies, even some fruits. You never go back to pasta, white bread, sugar and the like. I have lost 11 lbs in the first two weeks and feel great. I am really tired of so called "health specialist" who are often "people who work in health clubs" chiming in with their limited knowledge. All I can say is this. Try it. You will feel great and be amazed. Low fat, high carb diets are great for gaining weight. I should know I have gained on them for years. The Atkin's way of eating works and is a realistic lifelong nutrition plan.

Summary: Love the diet, but have some concerns
Review: Hi, I have a major concern. I am in the beginning of my 2nd week, and so far I have lost 8 pounds. I am very happy, but last night I got quite a scare. I started feeling very weak and lightheaded, almost to the point of passing out. It reminded me of my diabetic grandmother who got weak and dizzy when she needed sugar. I also want to add that I had what was like tunnel vision, where my sight was blurry around the edges.

Summary: It REALLY Works!!!
Review: I found my self lathargic, lacking energy, and often sleepy consuming society's standard idea of food. After 3 days, I felt more energetic and felt much better! After 11 days, I have lost 11 pounds, one per day. I feel great!!

Summary: Sounds great, but why the need for supplements?
Review: I have tried these diets, but they seem unsound. The fact that you must cut back on fruit and vegetables is worrying. Reminder: most of the cancer fighting chemicals are found in vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, etc.

Also, why the need for supplements and the problems with potassium, etc? This should turn off most people. Consider: our ancestors didn't have access to supplements!

Another way to approach this problem is to avoid desserts and softdrinks. You don't need these "foods". They're useless and potentially harmful, even if the only danger is diabetes. And also, kick the caffeine habit - believe me you'll feel much better.

For those not interested in dramatic weightloss - which is bad for you - try eating mainly carbohydrate or mainly protein meals, but never mix the two. Also, don't overeat and you will lose weight. Remember: weightloss is not a competition - its about being healthy so focus on eating healthy, not which foods will make you loose weight.

Summary: It really works, don't let any one else sway you otherwise.
Review: My mother did this diet about 20 years ago and was very successful in losing 56 pounds in about4 months. She kept that off for over 9 years, until my father and mother divorced and she put back about 40 of those pounds over a 3 year period. Did the diet again and lost 36 pounds in 6 weeks. I did this diet once when I was a senior in high school and lost 20 pounds over the 2 week Christmas break. After having my baby I did this diet again (I also fell into the trap of low fat or low calorie dieting) and its going wonderful. My husband and I started it together, going through the fridge and cupboards tossing anything that had high carbs and temptations. After being on this diet for 8 days I have lost 10 pounds and my husband a whooping 20 pounds. He has about 40 more to go as I also have the same. We do ride bikes every day, rain or shine. My husband is although for some reason staying below 12 carbs a day. Perhaps this is why he dropped so much, including the 12 miles a day we ride on our Mountain bikes. I've searched the web for good recipe ideas and tips to get over the munches etc. Makes it a lot more easy to do. I don't even miss the pasta and breads and other things now. Since the scale has gone down as the tape measure has also, that alone is enough to make me stay true to the diet. We do not drink caffiene and use very very little artificial sweeteners. IT REALLY WORKS! I'm going to get a new wardrobe this Christmas since I should be in my goal weight!!!
