Summary: after way bandy, kevyn's book is a MUST HAVE!
Review: there has never been a more well known artist after way bandy - kevyn aucoin's talent may have equalled or surpassed way's popularity. well, we all know that kevyns idol is way bandy. nevertheless, this book is a truly must have for a budding make up artist or for anyone who just wants a change in the way they look. it comprises all the techniques, product identification, application, different looks from glamorous, minimalist, retro, drag etc. critics have said that you can't use his techniques in everyday life but i beg to disagree. he has given women and men options on how to create a look even if you are 15 or 55. with all the info he has given, you can make variations on how to create your own look as you deemed like it or most comfortable with. you can make adjustments like, using foundation instead of just powder if you don't have flawless skin. changing the type of foundation if it's too humid etc. Kevyn is just giving options, you don't necessarily have to follow them. if it doesn't work for you try another one or vary it. i have bought other books by other make up artists but this book is all you need! Satisfaction guaranteed!

Summary: GREAT
Review: I am a professional model and I need makeup ideas all the time. This book does not only taught me how to put makeup on, it gives me INSPIRATION and MOTIVATION to attempt new colors, new looks and new 'attitude'. I can't recommend it higher than this!

Summary: A fine book but frustrating
Review: This is the best book on makeup I've got - and it's driving me crazy. The salespeople at huge beauty stores haven't heard of a few of the products Kevyn recommends - a listing of sources would be *very* helpful. Aside from that, I'm having a great time experimenting and getting looks I've never achieved before.

Summary: Kevyn, is an amazing make up wizzard !
Review: This book is all a make up pro needs ! It's a bit confusing for a amateur though . I put all my make up books aside after having this very special make up book. All those amazing makeover, techniques, tips, are very smart, awesome pictures , a lot of varieties of faces too ! Also how Kevyn explained about the person he made up is very friendly and warm.Highly, highly recommendable !

Summary: This book will come in handy...trust me.
Review: I've had this book for more than two years and i must say it's given me tons of ideas and helpful tips on how to get a certain look. I even used it when i was helping a family member get ready for her prom! I do wish, however, that Aucoin would've made some recommendations for products; that would've helped out immensely when choosing cosmetics. But i must say, this man's talent is invigorating and inspiring!!

Summary: The MUST HAVE book for every Makeup Artist!
Review: I really like the illustrations presented in the book. I went through several other makeup books by others which I will not name and Kevin's book came out on top. He presented different techniques, and showed how to do them. The other makeup books did not show this. The photographs were useful and great at the same time. I really liked his style and his belief system which is similar to mine. "That our unique characteristics are what makes us beautiful." GREAT JOB KEVIN!! Looking forward to more books from you!

Summary: Beautiful as an art book, but boils down to little substance
Review: The pictures in 'Making Faces' are gorgeous and the book is brimming over with glamour. However, as a 'beauty guide' I found it to be very lacking in hard information. The explanations of different forms of makeup (liquid versus cream foundation, matte lipstick versus gloss) were mostly self-evident and the application tips could have been contained in a small pamphlet. The reason the book is so large is to include pictures of beautiful women (and men) If you would normally buy an art or photograph book then I would strongly recommend buying this book. However, for 'make-up tips' I would recommend saving your money and flipping through it at the local Barnes and Nobles for ideas. I really don't think anyone is going to become that much better at applying make-up just because they use this book. Just as I don't think anyone would look that much better just because they wore a swimsuit modeled by Cindy Crawford in this month's edition of Vogue. Kevyn Aucoin is a star even in the world of professional make-up artists and from the biographical information in 'Making Faces' he seems to have been destined to be a great make-up artist. Whereas the rest of us women have a love/hate relationship with make-up and are almost desperately hungry for a make-up fix/miracle. I think there are great make-up ideas in this book that could help people get over make-up phobias and become more comfortable with themselves and make-up. Aucoin's attitude is friendly and encouragin. I'm also impressed that the book has such a people-positive attitude and addresses looks for a wide range of people. But I cannot understand why the other reviewers of 'Making Faces' make such a big fuss over it as if it took on Messianic proportions. I guess if you are obsessed with make-up and being beautiful this is a book to add to your collection. Personally, I don't think glamour equates with 'make-up advice' and you are not going to absorb beauty by rubbing this book over you or being near it or buying it.

Summary: Not for the average schmoe
Review: I must say I am surprised at the reviews! It's a great book, if you're in the profession of makeup. None of the looks are fit for the average 30 woman who's going to the local mall or to work. This looks are for professional models on the runway. He tells you have to achieve the look, it's true, but he leaves out little things, like sometimes you can clearly see the model is wearing eyeliner, but he fails to put that in the steps to get the look. I had fun with the book when I first got it, but now it's gathering dust in my closet. I guess it depends on what looks you are going for and how seriouse with make-up you are.
