Summary: I Don't Feel Deprived Anymore
Review: I had thought for awhile that I was really addicted to carbohydrates. While Christmas shopping, I passed a book store and saw the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet book. I stopped, scanned the book, and thought that this reward meal is too good to be true! However, if it is true, than this is the one for me. I was so excited, that I bought the book and told several friends about it. I lost the weight and have kept it off for over a year. I love this plan. I don't feel deprived anymore, or have the constant cravings. I would recommend the plan to anyone. The only thing is that you do have to be reasonable about the reward meal, feast not binge!

Summary: Give It A Try
Review: This book was recommended by a friend who saw the Carb addict in me before I did! Took the test in the book and then started to follow the diet. Not only am I beginning to lose weight, I feel better, have more energy and less cravings. I would highly recommended this book to anyone who has had trouble in the past sticking to a low fat/calorie diet. It explains why and gives you a diet that you can stick with.

Summary: A waste
Review: The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet plan is hogwash. There is no such thing as carbohydrate "addiction." The cheap buzzwords and pseudoscience employed in the Hellers' books are pretty disgraceful.

Summary: The diet works, and it is as healthy as you want it to be
Review: Bottom line: the diet works, and it becomes easier, not harder, to follow, as you get used to selecting your meals. My husband and I have been following it together for 5 weeks and are both losing weight at the speed the authors recommend (1% of your weight per week). All the hype is true - cravings and hunger are reduced, you feel energetic, and the reward meal makes the diet painless. Along with a tasty dessert almost every day, I am eating quite healthily - tons of vegetables and fish during the day; whole grains and fruit at dinner - although the diet seems to work equally well if you are a bit disgusting and just eat things like bacon, eggs, and cheeseburgers for your two "complementary" meals.

My complaints about this book are strictly literary - reading it is almost embarassing (unless you actually LIKE really lame women's magazines)- everything was "Ellen's story"; "Susan's story"; etc., etc. It was like having to read "Can this marriage be saved" for ten hours straight. Also, the book is poorly presented and inconsistent. For example, in one spot they say to eat 1-2 cups of vegetables at every complementary meal. (A pointless guideline as many vegetables vary wildly in volume depending on whether they are cooked or raw and how finely they are chopped.) Despite this rule, the suggested menus show no vegetables at breakfast. Another example (there are dozens): they give a list of accepted vegetables that includes zucchini. In the back is a table with carbohydrate counts - following their guidelines, zucchini is NOT acceptable as it appears in the table. So the book can be annoying and confusing - but for a diet that works, is very easy, and allows you to shy away from high fat (or not, if you prefer), the flaws are well worth putting up with. Buy it, use it, get thin, feel great!

Summary: This diet is NOT for everyone-even if you are a carb addict!
Review: I thought I had found it! Most of the book made sense and when I took the test I found out I am a severe carbohydrate addict. I knew that, if this diet worked, it was a diet I could live with forever! That was the downfall though - IF the diet worked. I did it for a week straight and did not even consider cheating. I not only did not lose any weight but I GAINED weight. Only a half of pound but still I was DEVESTATED! I wanted this diet to work so badly. I am debating whether or not to give it one more week to work before giving up. I would definitely recommend trying it. I mean there are far more positive reviews than negative ones. Just don't get your hopes up...for me it was too good to be true.

Summary: BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT
Review: I always eaten healthy, but never been able to loose weight. I have been overweight for about 15 years, and have never been able to find a WORKABLE, LIVEABLE diet that could be maintained LONGTERM as a lifestyle. I have been on this diet approx. 4 months with weight loss approaching 15KG in this time. MAKE NO MISTAKE, this diet does not return quick results, but as the collegue that introduced this diet to me said " you eat an elephant one bite at a time ". He has lost approx 30KG in 6 months. The results are slow, but steady. I continue to drink beers in large amounts at least 2 times a week, and eat Burger King at least 3 times a week, and the weightloss continues. To all the previous reviewers that said they had no result, I believe that WATER intake is THE MOST important thing on this diet! You need to drink MINIMUM 4litres of water a day. Skipping breakfast improves results, and having only a salad at lunch time with no Protein once again returns additional benefits. Reducing the amount of fat during your rewards meal seems to be another trick.

Summary: Authors' Website contains more useful info than Book itself
Review: Don't be fooled by what you have read in this book. I had been on the diet for three weeks, stationed indefinitely at 160 pounds. I followed the rules, down to removing tomatoes from my salads for fear of releasing unwanted insulin. However, at dinner, I would "go back for another dessert." as suggested. Somehow, I didn't feel right having these cookies, or eating an ice cream cone at the end of my "reward meal". Desperate to find out what I had been doing wrong, I checked out the website "www.carbohydrateaddicts.com". On this site, the authors address certain aspects of the plan not specifically documented in their book: Solution to Yo-Yo Dieting. On the site, they break your reward meals down - very much like the Zone diet - into a 1/3, 1/3, etc plan. Yes, you can have as many carbohydrates as you'd like, provided you balance it out with the same amount of protein and low-carb vegetables. This is touched on in the book, but is almost entirely disregarded when suggestions such as "have that glass of wine", "have that extra dessert", "don't feel guilty with that pizza". Because frankly, you should feel guilty. Anyway, after following the rules on the WEBSITE, rather than the book, I am beginning to lose weight.

If only this information had been included in the book. So save your money, and check out the website.

Summary: YOU ARE NOT ALONE, IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT
Review: Trust me I have tried and failed all my life, but not with this book. For the first time I understand why I was always hungry and never satisfied. This change in my eating has changed me. I walk with my head high! Because I now know being overweight is not my fault. It is my body's make-up. I am slowly taking the weight off and I am not on a diet, I just changed what and when I eat.

Summary: working hard again.
Review: I tried this diet three years ago and lost 35 lbs in three months. I had slowly begun to gain weight again as my exercise level dropped. I have now started this diet again but to my dismay, after just beginning the 4th week and running/walking for 30 minutes each day, I have gained 4 lbs. I am sticking with it for a few more weeks to see if this is just something I'm going through. Hopefully, it will work again for me.
