Rating: Summary: It Makes a Difference Review: Picked this up in the airport on yet another frenetic trip. I'd been having problems with memory loss: work very stressful, home very stressful - the usual. Thought, "Hmmm, Maybe all the chips and chocolate isn't the answer." This book put it all in perspective. It was easy to dip in and read the bits that applied to me. I made some basic changes - just one at first (gave up coffee) then more (more fish, better vitamins, less fried food). Years of poor nutrition had made me forget what it's like to feel good. Highly recommended - clearly written, easy to understand, this book could really make a difference in your life.
Rating: Summary: Everyone should read this book Review: This book really does justify the outstanding reviews, the most notable one touting it as the "breakthrough we've been waiting for". Basically, the book tackles all the main mental-health illness of today, from autism to schizophrenia, from depression to alzheimer's in a clear and no-nonsence way. The main message from the book is that not only does the mind affect the body, but study upon study conclusively show that the body affects the mind also, and in a much more profound way than we previously imagined, more specifically that the bio-chemical make-up of the brain is largely responsible for our mental health. As the brain is made by what we eat, drink, and breath everyday, the link between diet and brain becomes inescapable. Thus by correcting the bio-chemical imbalances in the brain, be they, vitamin, mineral, amino acid, EFA etc. deficiencies, as well as correcting our diet, the brain restores it's balance and so does the mind, thereby preventing mental illness fom raising it's ugly head, and in most cases, curing it. There's also a section on how to improve IQ, memory, mood, and sleeping etc., giving the nutrients the brain need to function optimally. As I am one of the suposedly silent mass of people finding it hard to cope in this 21st centuary fast paced, stressed out world, this book is a welcome and timely helping hand.
