Rating: Summary: it really works. Review: Before reading this book I was a mild, ineffectual human. I read this book, slowly meditating upon its rich information. I tried one of its recommendations to establish a simple tributary relationship with a homeless man. It worked, and the homeless man would happily perform my bidding, no matter how debasing and cruel were my requests to him. Feeling confidence with my new powers over people, I used my influence to get a doctor to give me thousands of dollars worth of brand new medical equipment.
Anyways, I'm now able to exert my dominance over a network of individuals who all pay tribute to my nascent magnificence. For instance, this past week I've eaten nothing but the choicest mule steaks, sweet turtle soup, and premium caviar - all of which were provided by my suibordinates. I now know why David Koresh found this slim little pearl such a godsend.
I owe it all to this book. Les Giblin - thank you.
In addition to this, I recommend Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard. These should come as a twofer!
Rating: Summary: Be confident! Review: I am a shy person naturally, so this book really helped me. It is a timeless classic that helps you relate to other people in a variety of settings and cultivate friendships. It also talks about how to influence people, which is good if you are in sales or simply trying to get your way with something important to you. Great book!
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: I am amazed that this book was written 43 years ago and yet all the basic principles behind human behavior that Les examined still apply today.I could not get my hands off this book as I enjoy it so much. The most practical and useful book I have ever read especially for people who really want to improve their interpersonal relationship.
Rating: Summary: Great book to create people power Review: I first heard about this great book back in the mid 1970's when I was working for a direct sales company. I had to admit that people skills were not my forte. The good news was that they could be devloped and I did just that by reading and using Les Giblins great techniques.
The technique how to get 100% cooperation alone is worth the price of this book. In fact, I feel that it would be impossible to read any part of this great book without benefitting.
This is a great book. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Goes to the heart of the matter Review: I love this book. It goes to the heart of the matter even better that Dale Carnegie's book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, although that is an excellent book too. I have read and re-read this book and practice it constantly. But dealing with people is one of those things that you can continually improve and never come to the end of your potential. Giblin's book is a classic manual for that journey. Another excellent book is Self-Help Stuff That Works by Adam Khan (Youme Works; ISBN: 0962465674). That book has great references and he uses the same chapter ending principle style as Carnegie! You won't find it at the bookstore, but you will find it here.
Rating: Summary: "A lot of great advise--but a bit of a bore." Review: I've owned this book for some time, but have only recently read it. Many other authors have recommended it, as well as quoted it. For a short book, (less than 200 pages) it took me too long to read it. It is definitely a book worth reading and re-reading, but with other books which are better written, this one may sit on my shelf for some time. Again, this book does contain positive information, so I do recommend it.

Rating: Summary: The best how-to book Review: If you have trouble handling people, this is the book for you. Sure, it was written in the 1950s, but it does NOT need to be updated. Everything the author says is true; and he explains it all in an easy, understandable, and thoughtful way. One of my favorite parts is when Les Giblin tells a story about one of his friends who walked up to total strangers and chatted with them as if they were old friends. ("No one ever called him fresh or rude.") Giblin asked his friend what his secret was. His friend's secret is revealed; Buy this book, b/c it's worth it!
Rating: Summary: A timeless classic! Review: Les' book is a timeless classic. I read this book over 10 years ago and I still remember how great it was today. How to Have Confidence and Power in Dealing With People by Les Giblin is a must have in any success/self-improvement library. Wishing you the best of luck and much success, your devoted life coach, Zev Saftlas, Author of Motivation That Works: How to Get Motivated and Stay Motivated
Rating: Summary: Good advice on how to listen Review: Pros: This is a good book about how to listen to people and accomplish your goals. The author provides information on how you can improve your listening and communications skills when dealing with people with an end goal of creating a [win-win] (my words, not the authors) situation. Cons: The language is dated at times, and I question some of the "facts" that he mentions (there are several "psychologists have proven..." type of lines used here and there); mostly due to lack of adequate citation and my own rudimentary knowledge about the field of psychology. All in all, this is a great book and a short read! Spend a weekend reading it and put some of Les' advice into practice!
