Summary: common sense
Review: I've read this book and it works if you use it but its nothing new. If you want to save yourself some time from buying it drink water eat a well balanced meal, and exercise. Everything Oprah touches turns to gold. If only I could get 14.95 for my advice!

Summary: Grimly Ironic.
Review: Ms. Winfrey is famous for experiencing somatic changes as regular and dramatic of those of the fabled Incredible Hulk. For this reason one is tempted to dismiss any advice that she might proffer on the topics of diet, nutrition, or general bodily health. However after going through so many visibly successful "slimming phases," Winfrey has arguably shed more pounds in the aggregate than the ill-fated Donner Party, and her directives should not be taken lightly. I myself followed this wonderful disk's program for several weeks before my second wedding, and was able to wow my betrothed with a slender new physique in time for our romantic yet financially disastrous trip to Petit St. Vicent. Sadly just like its esteemed narrator, I fell into a subsequent bout of severe gluttony that rapidly erased my hard-won gains. However I took heart in Ms. Winfrey's own phoenix-like dieting program, convinced that one day success would again be mine. I found the quiet example of Winfrey's co-reader, Bob Greene, to be no less inspiring. Greene is an object lesson in tenacity and dedication as he daily addresses the Sisyphean task of being Ms. Winfrey's personal trainer.

Summary: The common sense way to a better body
Review: Oprah Winfrey was depressed and ashamed of her body. She tried every diet on the market. None of them had any long-term success. That was until she met Bob Greene, the author of this book. In this book, Oprah opens up her diary to show her struggle and eventually victory with her weight. Bob Greene tells you what is necessary in order to be healthy and happy with yourself. He talks about his experiences with Oprah and others that he has trained. He gives a common sense approach to a better body and a better life. As Oprah found out, there are no quick fixes. I highly recommend this book for anybody who wants to have a better body and a better life. I have applied Bob Greene's ten steps to my life and, like Oprah, I have a better body and a better life

Summary: The plain truth about permanent weight loss
Review: The best part of this book is that it "tells it like it is". Yes, some days it hurts to work out; yes, some months, despite your best efforts you plateau and don't lose weight; and yes, maintaining a healthy weight is a life-long effort. Those people who lock onto to the hottest new "diet miracle" like a heat-seeking missile will not like this book! But, if you are looking for an easy-to-follow plan to get control of your eating habits, this is it.

Despite never having a weight problem himself, Bob Greene is amazingly sensitive and understanding of behaviors such as emotional eating and bingeing. As Oprah states "He understood the problem was deeper than even I realized". His down-to-earth factual explanation of the "ten steps" of his program are balanced by excerpts from Oprah's journals. It took a lot of courage to reveal what she shared in this book. As Bob says "overweight people are literally wearing their pain". But few of us overweight people have to endure the pain of reading about our latest size increase in People magazine, complete with unflattering pictures!

If you are looking for a plan to help you get control of your eating, one that balances your physical, emotional and spiritual needs - this is it

Summary: Motivating!
Review: This is an autobiographical story of Oprah's weight/food/excercise/lifestyle issues for the first half, and a 'lifestyle primer for health' by Bob Greene in the second half. It is highly motivating, and offers very helpful advice, advice I truly believe in (the kind of advice that people who make all kinds of excuses loathe to hear). It's basic, proven information that works. I don't think anyone could argue with that.
