Summary: The Pleasures of Miranda Austin
Review: All kinds of readers will be glad they've read *Phone Sex* by phone sex worker Miranda Austin. Want to try your own hand (voice?) at the job? This book will tell you how.

Always wanted some hot-and-kinky-and-twisted-and-downright-weird sex, but so far haven't had the nerve to try? This book will tell you how to take one safe, easy step by sharing your fantasy with a phone sex worker.

Want to use phone play to spice up the sexual life of you and your partner, whether long-distance or in the same house? This book will tell you how.

But in spite of the solid information, the happiest readers who will read *Phone Sex* will be those readers who enjoy funny, sexy, thoughtful writing. This book is a page-turning pleasure written by a woman with a pitch-perfect ear for both dialogue and absurdity. Of even more significance is Ms. Austin's blend of tolerance and self-knowledge, a blend that makes the book as thought-provoking as it is amusing and informative. A keeper, and an auspicious debut for a sexy new writer.

Summary: phone fun
Review: As a phone kitten - I definitely have to say that this book is right on!

I have to say I was nervous when I received this book - as most books make us girls look so freaking sad - this book seemed to celebrate phone girls, and the job!

And the part about the guy who fantasizes about the Author dumping him for a guy with monsterous biceps? I talk to him al the time! LMAO...

Way to go Miranda!

Summary: Entertaining & educational
Review: I wish I had this book when I was working for the Human Sexuality Studies Department at San Francisco State. It is rare for someone to be that likeable and amusing while conveying so much good information. If you've ever wondered about phone sex, you should read this book.

Do not, however, attempt to read this near someone who is trying to sleep. You will probably wake them up; either you will laugh too loud (and wake them up) or you will succumb to the desire to read them "just this little bit! Really!" and wake them on purpose.

Summary: Sexy, funny, honest and intelligent
Review: Ms. Austin is a delightful new voice in the realm of kink journalism. She opens the door to a world most of us haven't explored before and she does it with the skill of a real pro. Her book is both expose' and homage, as she shares personal anecdotes, hilarious accounts and even some scary and painful experiences. She writes in a chatty 'girl-talk' style that makes you feel right at home in her world, even if you are in unfamiliar territory. She has a wicked sense of humour, but also compassion for the clients whose stories she tells. It's a raw, no-frills, straightforward bit of reporting with a human angle you don't often find in books of this nature. She approaches her edgy subject matter with an unflinching and non-judgmental attitude and she never shies away from her material, no matter how non-PC it may be at times. Such frankness and brutal honesty is refreshing and I read the book in one sitting. My only complaint is that she ends it too abruptly. A final 'farewell' chapter would have been welcome, but hey - I guess she's earned the right to be the one to hang up without saying goodbye for a change. <eg> 'Phone Sex' is deliciously decadent and always engaging. I'd recommend it to anyone - kinky or vanilla. I might even recommend it to my mom...

Summary: The Pleasures of Miranda Austin
Review: This book chronicles the "adventures" of a woman who decides to earn extra money by doing phone sex. Having known a couple women who did this type of work at one time, it gave me a better idea of what kinds of clients they get along with their fantasies, which run the gamut from good old fashioned to BDSM to the unusual. The men the author deals with also range from "nice guys" to those trying to get away with a "free call" to those with disturbing fantasies, and even "first timer callers." Quite a fascinating cross-section of folk.

The author also has chapters on role playing for lovers wanting to try their own form of this play and if you want to try it, tips on what to do and what not to do. I liked how the author pointed out that phone sex is sex, even if it may not be the "traditional" form we all love. And as the author points out, it is the ultimate in safe play.

This book offers a fascinating look into this fascinating "world," and those who are "phone sex operators" and their clients.

Summary: Phoney Sex Fantasy!!!!
Review: This book may be ok for a phone sex consumer or someone looking for a cheap thrill, but as a professional phone actress it was very disappointing. I had been looking foreward to getting this book and after reading it twice it went in the trash. Austin talking about getting hot and bothered with callers doesn't ring true in my experience or any of my acquaintances in the business. The most preposterous claim in her book is being successful with a character that is supposedly asian, but using a whiny New York accent. Several phone workers I know and myself as well, have asian and other ethnic characters, when clients call them they want an exotic experience and expecting a very genuine accent. Although Ausin's writing is adequate and even marginally witty at times, her accuracy and take on the business is very sadly lacking.

Summary: Great Phone Sex Read
Review: This was an uplifting interesting book! Even funny at times. Most phone sex books I've bought were sad and full of garbage. This woman did an awesome job writing this book. I highly recommend for a good read. Even if for the curious.

Summary: Engaging and Amusing
Review: You've never read anything quite like this before. Part insider's guide to being a "phone sex girl" and part "aural sex" guide for lovers - this book combines the two sensibilities. Ms. Austin's insights as an intelligent, witty woman observing herself as a phone sex girl are not only fascinating and funny - but are sure to inspire the next phone call you have with your partner.

This is phone sex as you've never thought of it before. It trashes the idea of a bored housewife doing her nails during calls - instead it shows a thoughtful observer developing her persona, her style and learning the ropes of phone sex. Her callers become real to her and to us, and you alternately sigh and giggle about how wide the world of sex really is. You'll hear about more unusual fantasies than you are able to imagine - but that is one of the books virtues: it can help you expand your definition of sexy. Maybe it will help you feel more comfortable talking about your own secret desires, either to your partner or your local phone sex girl. If many of them are offering Ms. Austin's sort of kind, sex-laced acceptance - I'm not surprised that the industry is growing (talk about the ultimate safe sex !)

The writing is funny, the topic is sexy and slightly taboo, the author's point of view is fascinating and definitely worth your while. I highly recommend it.
