Summary: good survey and reference book
Review: There's not much I can add to the editorial reviews. It's a handbook, it's comprehensive, if you're a serious participant in the field you ought to make yourself familiar with this book. It's 27 chapters of personality by the big names in the field. Seven chapters on "Theoretical Perspectives" (psychoanalytic, cognitive, etc.), 7 on the "Interface with Other Fields" (biology, genetics, social psychology, etc.), and a slew of chapters on "Research Topics" like gender, the unconscious, and personality change. A great reference book; a good survey.
