Summary: Envy - from many vantage points
Review: Boris, a Harvard professor and Boston psychoanalyst, reaches deftly into anthropology, history (Darwin); psychoanalysis (Freud, Klein, Winnicott, Bion, and his own clinical practice); literature (Poe, Joyce, Carson McCullers, Eliot, Frederick Barthelme); and philosophy (Plato, Kant) to explore and expose the critical element of unconscious envy; not one of the seven deadly sins, but an interesting and vital psychic component. One chapter, "The Equalizing Eye," lost me (jargon overload), but for the most part Dr. Boris is clear, careful, and compassionate.
