With the growing interest in the works of Ronald Fairbairn, Melanie Klein, Donald Winnicott, and others, this book stands not only as an excellent introduction by someone who knew the people involved - and was analysed by both Fairbairn and Winnicott. It is also a creative, and at times critical, synthesis that shows the power and compassion of Guntrip's mind, and why he too is recognised as one of the great analysts to have come out of Britain.
