Summary: Great ideas for simple, beautiful living...
Review: I have read many, many books on various topics related to spiritual interiors, creative self expression relevant to design of one's surroundings etc and believe this is one of the best. I am a professional gardener, mosaic artist, painter and live a very down to earth life with two small children and three pets. This book seems very condensed in it's ability to pull many areas of interest into usable concepts along with lovely, soothing and inspiring photographs. The one shot of the blue bath on the cover was enough to lure me to explore it's pages further. We have many rocks and natural items within our home. They connect us to our love of the ocean and to our garden during the rainy Oregon Winters. The brilliant colors are fantastic. Many of the interiors are very simple with a few natural objects or pieces of functioning glass or pottery as focal points. Our home reflects the personalities of those who reside within it's walls. There is a deep sense of peace and tranquility, yet a sense of humor and creative expression that pleases our kids as well as us. Implement just one or two ideas from this book and you too may have a fresh perspective.

Summary: Gorgeous, Inspirational and Practical
Review: If you want to get started with creating a holistic home this book is an excellent way to start. The book is full of beautifully illustrated ideas that are quite simple to achieve. If you are further along with this process Joanna Trevlyan's ideas are still useful in "Holistic Home" because there are so many ideas presented, one couldn't possibly already know all of them. Highly recommended!

Summary: not light reading but very tasty
Review: This book has defined how I feel about my home. It is a mixture of decorating ideas and philosophy, with the ultimate goal of creating a home that is pleasant and meaningful to all five of the senses, making your home good for the spirit. To call this book's agenda 'new age' is a bit misleading; feng shui is well presented but strictly in layman's terms, folklore and cultural traditions are also used as points from which to guage your style and find language to use in creating it. Most of the ideas presented are universally asthetic, appealing to us on a human level, without the pretensions of trend.
You can read through the chapters, really digging into Trevelyn's ideas, or use the nicely placed side bars and boxed text until something really catches your eye. The best thing about this book are the photographs. The interiors and outdoor spaces shown here are extraordinary in their overall appeal. Though the book is now 5 years old, the 'style' of all the interiors here are timeless and classic, but far from the Ethan Allen ideas of traditional. They will be vital for many years to come.

Summary: Great ideas for simple, beautiful living...
Review: This book makes me want to toss out all my junk and surround myself with fresh light and air and color. As a lifelong packrat, anything that makes me feel like clearing the crap out of my house is pure magic in my book!

The photos alone are gorgeous and I felt like I'd gone on a mini-vacation. As a person who is living with a chronic illness, that's a wonderful thing - being able to feel refreshed and rejuvenated simply by opening a book. "Holistic Home" makes me very aware that while my life might not be perfect, there are certainly things I can do to make it BETTER and more pleasant.

Combine this with Karen Kingston's books and create a brighter, healthier, more joyous environment. Life is too short not to surround ourselves with beauty.
