Rating: Summary: A must read for all in the medical or scientific fields. Review: This book is not intended as a light reader into the relatively new field of fetal origins of adult disease. Those with a medical (nurses, MA's, doctors) or scientific (college students) background will find it to be a challenge to many of the traditional notions of how we stay healthy and become ill. This book goes into the scientific findings which have lead many researchers world wide to focus on the intrauterine environment as the basis for many adult diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Dr. Barker is not only the author of the book, but is also the scientist that made most of the discoveries written about in the book. It was his research that has started off this incredible field of research. As a MD/PhD student I found it readable and very pertinent to medical care in the 21st century. Those involved in patient care, especially the care of children, owe it to their patients to learn more in this area.
