Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Lavinia Fontana by Caroline Murphy
Review: This is an excellent reference in world art. Fontana is
considered the most significant woman artist of Renaissance
Europe. Her work consists of altarpieces, historic paintings
and portraits. Some classic samples are Julius III, Small Boy
With a Carnation, Christ and the Canaanite Woman,
Senator Orsini, Self Portrait in the Studiolo, Visit of the
Queen of Sheba to Solomon and Madonna and Child With 5 Female
Saints. The works are set forth in brilliant color with
ornate designs in historical settings. The Vision of
St. Hyacinth is depicted as the most important of the
Bologna works. This work is perfect for art history buffs.
The presentation would provide a wealth of material for
any class project.
