Rating: Summary: A good book on a forgotten theatre of WWII Review: With the resurgence of interest in World War II there has been a depressing tendency to forget about the sacrifices of Allied troops in the North African and Mediterranean theatres in World War II. Movies such as _Saving Private Ryan_ and _A Midnight Clear_ and mini-series such as _Band of Brothers_ focus on the northern European theatre, but D-Day couldn't have happened if the Germans hadn't been thrown out of North Africa and pushed out of Italy. Porch's book serves as an excellent history of this theatre and also offers several unique interpretations of why the Med was a more important theatre than was thought. Definitely worth reading although it is a bit dry in parts and the narrative flow is uneven.
