Summary: More fuzzy Russian "science"
Review: Isn't sad that so many intellectuals in Russia have so completely lost all credibility? It's also sad that Amazon pairs this book up with "Collapse" by Jared Diamond, a Pulitzer Prize winner and serious academic. Just try to keep from laughing when you read "From the Author" and "From the Inside Flap" in the "Editorial Reviews." People who buy this line of "reasoning" must also believe man never landed on the moon.

Summary: SCANDAL!!!!
Review: IT IS SCANDALOUS TO LET SUCH A BOOK BE PUBLISHED!!! I CANT BELIEVE ALL THAT NONSENSE. AND ALL THE DIGNIFIED PEOPLE WHO SPENT THEIR LIVES AT STUDYING HISTORY?? THAT FOMENKO MUST NOT TELL SUCH HORRIBLE LIES ABOUT OUR HISTORY! HE MUST NOT DESTROY THE BELIEF IN OUR PAST! I AM SHOCKED AND DISGUSTED TO SEE THAT HERE IN FORMER EAST GERMANY FOMENKO AND HIS NEW CHRONOLOGY IS EXTREMELY HIGH ON DEMAND THAT PEOPLE EVEN MAKE ILLEGAL COPIES AND TRANSLATIONS OF HIS WORKS! WE HAD SOVIET YOKE, NOW THIS AWFUL RUSSIAN IS TROUBLING THE SPIRITS HERE!! ITS A SCANDAL!!

Summary: dynamite in a paperback
Review: It should hardly surprise us that historians demonstrate such bloodthirst when it comes to the brilliant Russian mathematician - if enough people begin to question the foundations of world history and find all the tremendous inconsistencies buried there, the historical profession shall cease to exist and make way for the new natural science. If Fomenko isn't eaten alive come that bright day, that is.

Summary: Forgery for american audience
Review: It's a pity that Fomenko found some stupid enough publisher to stream his texts onto the poor heads of Americans. Though I understand that it may be successive commercial project as it is in Russia. Russians are suffering from Fomenko's innumerable irresponsible writings for more than 2 decades. Several books and a lot of articles have been published in response, by astronomers, physicists, mathematicians, historians, linguists showing step by step, argument by argument that his statistics is simple data massaging, that his astronomy - is just a collection of ridiculous amateurish errors, that his historical "reconstructions" are just clever (not always) manipulations with fragments from secondary texts. Blaiming protestant Scaliger and jesuit Petavius for joint invention of ancient history, Fomenko didn't bothered to read a single page from their works.

If the publisher indeed wants to publish counterarguments, he should simply translate one of such books (for example: "Myths of the New Chronology" or "Astronomy against New Chronology").

But in fact I even think that simple translation of excerpts from Fomenko's latest books about Russian global world Empire of the past (yes, he is in fact Russian nationalist), where there is no math and astronomy, would be enough. (The books: "Empire" and "Russia-Horde on the pages of biblical books"). For example -American Indians are ancestors of Russian Kazaks, Moses - is Russian Leader suppressing rebellions in Western Europe, Egyptian pyramids are graves of Russian Dukes etc. I seriously doubt that Fomenko himself would like to see these chapters translated for the western readers.

Summary: hands off science
Review: mathematicians should stick to mathematics and leave history the hell alone, they wouldn't know common sense if it bit them - they might do well to calculate the geometry of their own lavatory instead of trying to prove that the pope was a jew

Summary: RAW and Leary would be proud
Review: Neophobes are only right to scream in indignation; this is nothing short of a revolutionary work, and will yet become the foundation of a completely revised history of humankind. This is nowhere near a light and easy read, but I simply couldn't put it down! It also did a lot to confirm the suspicions about there being something wrong with history that I already had. Superb and highly provocative - don't miss out on this one!

Summary: Sky&Telescope Magazine confirms results
Review: Sky&Telescope Magazine confirms results, but does not buy Fomenko's theory
Fomenko uses astronomy data to support his argument that history is too long and that many historical events happened more recently than we thought. The temple walls and sarcophagi of some Egyptian ruins are decorated with depictions of the sun, moon, and planets as observed in the different zodiacal constellations. If a given depiction is accurate - that the celestial bodies were observed and placed correctly in the constellations - a horoscope can be used for dating. Fomenko has deciphered over a dozen Egyptian horoscopes. He claims, that the latter show dates that are 2-3 thousand of years later than conventionally thought. Most well-documented ancient eclipses actually took place in the Middle Ages.

Roger Sinnott, studied astronomy at Harvard and is an editor at the respected Sky & Telescope Magazine checked Fomenko's calculations for the famous trio of eclipses from Thucydides's account of the Pelopponesian War. The three eclipses are conventionally dated to 431, 424, and 413 BC. Fomenko finds these dates as non adequate to narrative of Thucydides's and finds exact solutions as late as in 1133, 1140, and 1151 AD.

The second example is the eclipse of 190 BC described in Livy's history
of Rome. Fomenko redates this event to 967 AD.

Fomenko`s dates accommodate details from ancient descriptions that the conventional dates do not. For example, Thucydides wrote that the first of his three eclipses was solar and that the stars were visible, that means that the eclipse was total. The accepted solution of August 3, 431 BC involves an eclipse that was only partial in Greece. Similarly, the Livy eclipse is supposed to have happened five days before the ides of July, which by our conventional reckoning would date it July 10. Fomenko's 967 AD solution nails that date, while the conventional 190 BC eclipse actually occurred on March 14.

Sinnott confirms that eclipses did take place on the dates Fomenko has chosen and concludes, "Even though Fomenko has found valid eclipse dates that seem to fit the descriptions, I think it is far-fetched in the extreme to conclude that the chronology of the ancient world is 'off' by more than one thousand years." Free country, isn't it?
Check Fomenko's calculations with ANY sky mapping software, professional or amateur, you'll get his results confirmed.

Summary: a complete abomination
Review: So much as opening this book is an insult to your intelligence already. It is amazing someone published it at all, but I guess they publish anything these days, "Mein Kampf" included. A schoolchild could prove Mr. Fomenko wrong time and again - he might think himself brave and innovative when he demonstrates
his complete lack of respect for the work of many generations of historians, but the fact remains that he simply lacks simple human decency and seeks popularity trying to prove white is black.

Summary: Worthless
Review: Stay away from this one...Everything in this book is based on the authors own perceptions which are dillusional at best. These people need professional help, and this book needs to find its way to the junkyard. For lack of a better word, this book is just plain stupid!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Vicious Circle
Review: The author is gone realy too far, but made, a few quite valid points. For example, the carbon-dating process is calibrated nowadays basis "known dates," i.e., it can be no more accurate than the chronology that it is based on. Boom! Another hit: Bronze Age is a total hoax, because to make bronze you need metallic tin. It is knwon for a fact that tin was discovered as late as 14 th century!
