Review: As I read this book, the story unfolded in my mind's eye like any movie projector would project a movie in a cinema. Reyes' descriptive prose is very good, it makes the images come to life in vivid color and detail. His descriptions of the familiar places of my childhood once again led me through the intricate annals of memory summoning faint images of a beautiful childhood, which now seems to have belonged to another lifetime, in a far distant world.

Review: Being one who has not experienced living in Cuba, I found this book imformative and insightful. It showed me a glimpse of the reality of life in Cuba. I was touched by the author's personal accounts of his time spent on the island. I highly recommend reading this memoir.

Review: Wow! What sadness exists in Reyes's Cuba! in his dreams! in his longings! in his recreation of a world long disappeared! For a Brit like me, to be able to sympathesize with a world so different from mine is true testament of Reyes's talent and passion. I've always wanted to visit Cuba. Maybe this will give me the push to finally do it.
