Rating: Summary: A very human and thoughtful memoire Review: How I Earned The Ruptured Duck: From Brooklyn To Berchtesgaden In World War II is the letters and memoir of Leo Bogart, a WW II American soldier who was only twenty years old when he entered the army in 1942. His letters are enhanced with a narration that connects loose ends between them and builds into a cohesive picture of daily life in those hazardous times including the long periods of boredom and inactivity, which were offset by terrible violence and deadly conflict, as well as the sometimes troubling interactions with the defeated enemy after the end of the war. A very human and thoughtful memoire, Leo Bogart offers a quite personal and engaging viewpoint of cataclysmic events. How I Earned The Ruptured Duck is a very welcome contribution to the growing library of World War II military biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs.
