Review: Lundstrom does it again in this information-packed work. This book is and will remain the reference on aerial combat over Guadalcanal from August to November 1942. Using primary sources from both sides of the Pacific, Lundstrum provides us with a complete and accurate account of the struggle in the skies over Cactus. The narrative by itself is superb, but Lundstrom goes one better by providing loads of maps, photos, and drawings, which add a lot of flavor and understanding to the narrative. An amazing work!!

Summary: For the serious student, this is the definitive book
Review: Rarely does a book appear on the history of warfare that manages to keep both the micro and the macro in view. Lundstrom gives us just that. The fierce fighting at Guadalcanal has been written about by everyone and his brother, but now Lundstrom gives us the details down to the "who flew Joe Foss's wing on that day?" level. If you are into aerial combat simply for the thrill, you're better off reading Eric Hammel, but if you really want to know the whys and whens, this is your Bible. It is mine for sure.
