Rating: Summary: A Student's Opinion Review: This book was an out and out great read. I am currently studying history in college, and to read an opinion that differs from what has been drilled into my head since high school is refreshing. One reviewer picked at Miller's use of "sentence fragments", and basically mocked the idea that her style might have had a positive impact on the majority on her readers. I have always believed that every author has an individual style, one which happens to catch a reader's attention, or doesn't. In my opinion Miller's writing style brings a sense of humanity to facts that would have been dry and lifeless in an ordinary textbook. If the authors of textbooks were to write as Dr. Miller does, universities would not need to be concerned about their students completing reading for classes. Take the time to read this book if only to satisfy a need to learn something other than the status quo. "Roanoke: Solving the Mystery of the Lost Colony" with rock the world of the traditional historian, challenge the student, entertain the sleuth, and at the very least provide an interesting topic to discuss at social functions. Regardless of your background, a cover to cover read of Miller's novel will be well worth your time.
