Summary: Comprehensive Look at the Garden State's Forgotten Half
Review: "South Jersey Towns" is an excellent compendium of the wealth of history in the lower half of the Garden State. The stories are grouped by region - beginning with the Jersey Cape, followed by Salem, Burlington, Old Gloucester, Cumberland, Atlantic, Camden and Ocean counties and includes maps (which identify many of the towns in the stories), black and white photos, an intersting appendix of old town names, plus a comprehensive bibliography.

Because of its wide scope, an introduction to provide a little perspective would have gone a long way, but nonetheless, highly recommeded!
Also recommended: "Forgotten Towns of Southern New Jersey" by Beck and its companion "More Forgotten Towns..."; "Patriots, Pirates and Pineys " by Peterson (60 great bios); "Tales of South Jersey" by Waltzer and Wilk (mostly articles reprinted frm 'Atlantic City' magazine).

Summary: The history of South Jersey Towns
Review: I am a New Jersey native having grown up in a small town in the southern half of the state. I have been researching the history of the towns that I know so well and the best resource I have come along is William McMahon's "South Jersey Towns." This book is an incredible resource for anyone interested in American history! As our nation was being developed by the Europeans, so many historical events took place in New Jersey! William McMahon's careful research and detail brings them to light. A must read for history buffs!
