Summary: Still a captivating book
Review: Brilliant story of the Titanic sinking. Found this book on a shelf in my English teacher's room and rest is history. Summary: 1st class passenger Elizabeth Farr is a spoiled 17 year old who is expected by her parents to go through a debut then marry a rich but boring banker, whom she doesn't even love. She tries desperately to get her parents to cancel the debut and the engagement and let her go to college at Vassar. During the trip she meets Max Whittaker, an amateur artist who left his parents to study art in Paris. Elizabeth decides to look to Max for advice on how to defy her parents and live on her own. As Max shows his strong support for Elizabeth, the two fall in love, but while Elizabeth's parents object to her seeing Max, they still allow because Max's parents are close friends. In 3rd class, 3 Irish teens also go on the Titanic to a new life in America. Katie Hanrahan wants to go and become a singer. Traveling with her are 2 brothers, Brian and Paddy Kelleher. Brian is looking to become a farmer while Paddy hopes to be a famous writer. During the trip, Katie discovers a hidden love for Paddy, but she doesn't want to fall in love with him, because he had a reputation back home as a heart breaker. Paddy meanwhile believes that Katie has plans to fall for Brian instead while Katie tries to convince him it's untrue. All the collisions and romances before the fateful night are put to the test when disaster strikes. Hearts will be broken, families torn apart. WHO WILL LIVE TO TELL THE TALE OF THE TITANIC? Reaction: Brilliant story told from the high and low classes. The timing between classes is very confusing and jumbled but on the other hand, this story has great unpredictability that will have you not sleep until you know who lives and dies.READ IT! IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH IT!

Summary: A FANTASTIC BOOK! BETTER THAN ANY OTHER BOOK ON THE TITANIC!
Review: I always wanted this book since 1999 when i was in grade 4, i saw it in a book catalog. But i wasn't interested. But now that i read it i tell you now it has captured my imagination. The story begins on Wednesday April 10, 1912. The Titanic is docked at the Southampton dock in England. The passengers board at their own gangways. Among those passengers, is beautiful Elizabeth Farr traveling in first-class with her mother Nola and her father Martin. She always argued with her parents even on the voyage, about marrying a man who she doesn't love at all, she also tells her parents that she wants to go her own ways and to go to collage. This book also tells about when the Titanic nearly collided with the smaller ship the New York when the Titanic was leaving Southampton. When the Titanic docks at Cherboug in France, Max Whittaker an artist, boards the ship. Elizabeth thought when she first saw him enter the ship, was he might have been in third-class and that he might walked through the wrong class. When the next day arrives the Titanic is at Ireland, Patrick and Brian Kelleher and Katie Hanrahan board the ship in steerage. Katie is a singer, brian wants to have his own farm in America and Partrick wants to be a writer. For the next couple of days Elizabeth trys and trys to convince her parents to let her go to collage and not to marry Alan when she gets to New York. But her parents wont listen at all, when she meets Max she falls inlove with im, sometimes she argued with him and told herself that she hates him. But she still had feelings for the dashing Max. Katie Hanrahan falls inlove with with Patrick Kelleher, but on Sunday April 14 1912, the beautiful ocean liner the RMS Titanic stricks an iceberg at 11:40 pm,and starts to sink. Martin Farr helps his wife and daughter with their lifejackets, and Max then goes up to the boat-deck with the Farr family. But as they walk up the staircase, the tilt on the steps grows steep and Elizabeth knows that the ship might be sinking. Katie Hanrahan goes to the boat-deck with these two children who she was forced to save them after the childrens nanny left them to save herself.Martin Farr helps his daughter into a lifeboat, but as this was taking place, Katie spotted the nanny and she helped the children into the boat. After Max said his goodbyes to Elizabeth they both told each other that they loved each other. Nola Farr enters the boat with her daughter. Through the rest of the book, the aurthor describes the horror and pain the Titanic caused as it was sinking. Rockets being fired into the air, the bow sinking lower and lower into the sea, the stern tilting higher and higher out of the water. The lifeboats being lowered into the water one by one. The orchestra playing on and on, the confusion of the steerage passengers who were locked behind the gates. Patrick Kelleher made his way to the boat-deck leaving his brother Brian to convince the people to go up on top. Katie and Patrick go into a lifeboat just as the ship begins to sink fast. Before they board they tell each other that they were both inlove too.Max and Martin are left on the sinking ship without no hope left to save themselves after the last boat had left. Again the aurther describes the final moments of the ship's sinking. The bow sinks deeper into the water, the foward funnel collapses, the stern rising higher into the air pointing towards the sky. People on the higher decks slide into the icy sea, everything in the ship breaks lose and crashes towards the front in one huge pile with a horrible noise. The lights go out, the ship begins to break apart, then the bow halg goes first, followed by the stern, by 2:20 am on Monday April 15 1912 the Titanic was gone.Who would survive the long terrible night after the great ship had sunk. Will Brian Kelleher, Max Whittaker and Martin Farr survive the cold and long night? Will Katie Hanrahan and Patrick Kelleher ever see Brian again? Will Elizabeth ever see Max Whittaker again? Will Nola Farr see her husband Martin Farr ever again? It's for me to know and for you two find out. This is a novel about the unfogettable disadter and about the passengers sailed on the ill-fated ship. For me it's a great book! That's why i ordered another copy of the same book Titanic The Long Night and plus check out Remembering The Titanic, it's about the surviors and it's one year later. Will they forget that terrible night?

Summary: The best sook you'll ever read!!
Review: I have just recently read this book for the fifth time - and still loved it as much as I did the first! All of the main characters are individuals and you get to see all of their stories while they are onboard the Titanic.

First there is Elizabeth, her parents and Max in first class. Elizabeth wants to break free of her arranged marriage and sees the trip as a perfect opportunity to do so, her parents however are refusing to let her. Max is an amateur painter who falls in love with Elizabeth, but her parent are furious!

In third class there are, Katie, Brian and Paddy all leaving Ireland to find work in America. Love is on katie's mind, but which brother does she choose - Paddy, the attractive one, or Brian the sensible one?

It is a must read and it gives you a good insight, in a fictional way, of what it was like for both classes on board the titanic as it meets it's fate! If you enjoy this book, the sequel, Remembering the Titanic is also a must read, showing how they cope the year following the tradgedy.

Summary: "The greatest book I have ever read"
Review: I really love this book!!! I stayed in my room for 4 days just reading it. It made me cry when elizabeth had to leave her father and Max when going into the life boat, and when katie got into the life boat without Paddy her true love, and then when paddy got into the boat I was happy that at least katie had someone with her when they arrive on the carpathia. It's like I was in the book watching them while I was reading I even pictured there faces and what everybody was feeling.I hated how Elizabeth's mother would never let her do what she wants and let live her own life.I stopped reading it beacause I didn't want it to end. The book is about love, parents, decisions, and feelings

Summary: The ship gets old but the book dosen't
Review: Not only can you read it once in one sitting but I found you can read it over and over and never get sick of it. The characters are very interesting, the plot is close to what a real life scenario could be and Diane Hoh captures the difference of the worlds of Elizabeth Farr and Katie Hanrahan perfectly. There's suspense, a little bit of action and some definte romance happeneing here. Pick this book up for a little bed time reading, a rainy day or just something for your spare time... you won't be dissapointed.

Summary: For Titanic fans: READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!
Review: This book was great. I learned more from this book because it was in so much detail that you felt like you were witnessing everything. The book has alter egos, which at times can be very confusing, especially when the great ship starts to sink. One part is about Elizabeth Farr; traveling in first class. Elizabeth is expected to marry a boring man after she gets back to New York. Elizabeth soon meets a young traveler named Max Whittaker, the son of aquantences. Elizabeth is jealous at the fact that Max is independant, and Elizabeth wants to know how he did it. The other part is about 3 Irish third-class passengers, hoping to make a better life in America; Kathleen Hanrahan, and the brothers: Brian and Patrick Kelleher. When the Titanic begins to sink, the full potential of each character comes out with a beautifully written ending. Their are only two problems. One, the book kept on flipping back in forth from 3rd class to 1st, which got confusing when the Titanic sinks. And the second, the author took some ideas from the movie; but gives a new zest to those ideas. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the sinking of the Titanic.

Summary: The ship sank, but the book won't. Meaning "good."
Review: This was an excellent book, although it was rather similar to the movie Titanic. There are actually two different plots going on at the same time; they criss-cross every now and then. One is Elizabeth Farr, a beautiful first class passenger. Her parents want her to marry a man called Alan Reed, a rich man ten years older than her. Elizabeth wants to go to college, but her parents are unwilling to send her. They expect her to suffer through her debut once they reach America and then marry Mr. Reed shortly after. While on board the grand ship, the "Titanic", she met a young painter named Max Whittaker. He is the son of some friends of Mr. Farr's. He has been studying art in Paris, much to the dislike of his parents.
The second plot in the story is about Katie Hanrahan. She is going from Ireland to America to become a singer in New York. Katie is traveling with Brian Kelleher, who plans to get a job working on a dairy farm before buying one for himself, and his younger brother Paddy, who plans to be a writer. All three of them have accommodations in steerage. Katie's roommate, Eileen, was paid to watch two small children, Kevin and Bridey, but Katie ends up watching them most of the time. Paddy is in love with Katie, but he thinks she is going to marry Brian. In reality, however, she loves Paddy.
When the "Titanic" collides with an iceberg late on April 14, it is everyone for themselves. Would Elizabeth, Max, Katie, Brian, and Paddy escape their awaiting doom at the bottom of the North Atlantic?
I highly recommend this splendid book. When I started reading it, I couldn't put it down, it was so good. As I read it, I could almost feel like I was right there on the "Titanic", I could almost see the characters standing in front of me by the rail having their conversations. This was a very good book and I suggest you read it.

Titanic - The Long Night:
Book Review

We all remember April 12th, 1912, when the Titanic sank. It was a great tragedy for many families, children, and especially lovers. Diane Hoh's, Titanic - The Long Night, is the retelling of this event, included with a love story. This story has most emphisis on this tragic love story. A rich girl named Elizabeth Farr is aboard the Titanic with two parents who could care less about what she wants. A boy named Max Whittaker is also aboard the ship with some friends named, Brian and Patrick Kelleher, and Kathleen Mahoney. Max is from Paris on his own. His parents are in New York. While aboard this ship, Max and Elizabeth begin to have feelings for each other. They form an unforgettable relationship. Later on throughout the book, the ship hits an ice burg and begins to sink. Lucily both characters survived.
There were many things that I liked and disliked about the book. For example, I liked the way the character, Kathleen had so much self confidence. I liked how the author included how each of the characters felt. I also liked the way Elizabeth stood up to her parents. " Give me what I really want. Give me the right to make my own decisions. Forget about marrying me to Alan Reed, and send me off to collage." This showed me that Elizabeth was not a coward and that she wouldn't let her parents make unreasonable decisions for her life.
There were also many parts of the books that I disliked. I did not like the parts when the characters judged each other or when they wouldn't listen to each other. I also didn't like the fact that there wasn't much detail on Max's point of view towards Elizabeth. I know it seems obvious that Max likes her, but it didn't state what he liked about her. I felt that in the beginning of the book, Elizabeth judged Max. " I think you might be in the wrong area of the ship. Does your ticket read first class?" Elizabeth said to Max. I felt that what she said was very rude. If someone doesn't look the way they should, that doesn't mean that they are not a good person. Although, I believe that Elizabeth learned her lesson.
My favorite part of the book was when the ship sank. This part of the book had so much detail and description., I felt as if I was actually there. When the ship sank, it should me how much one can mean to another. It even should me how much and an object, such as the Titanic, can also mean to one. Best of all, I liked how strangers were helping each other in this time of need. This book really changed my point of view towards many things. We shall never forget the Titanic.
