Summary: An Excellent book which hits at the heart of the issues
Review: There are very few authors in the west who have such a deep knowledge of that region and Eric is one of them. I am from Kashmir and am surprised to find some of the reviews so negative and seems to be politically motivated by people prefering to turn a blind eye to the conflicts. Some reviewers claiming to be from that region seems to doing so just to discredit the author when they themselves know nothing. There seems to be author bashing simply because of his stance on some of the other things which have nothing to do with this book.
Anyway the book gives good historical outlook also and adds value because author actually took the pain to travel to the region instead of writing from his living room watching History channel. Author gives good and accurate details regarding the problems faced by minorities and caste system in India. Just the fact that India has 600 thousand strong military presence in a tiny region can give one an idea about gravity of the situation.
A must read and then make your own decision.
