Rating: 5 stars
Summary: rugged true escape story
Review: Captain Frelinghuysen, of the 5th Field Artillery Battalionof the U.S. 1st Infantry Division, was ambushed and capturedby the Germans in North Africa in WWII. Arriving in a concentration camp in Italy in the dead of winter 1942, he refused to accept the defeat and apathy around him and began a self-imposed program of physical training and Italian, preparing himself for an opportunity to escape. His ordeal of seven weeks of fear, hunger, and cold, on foot in some of the most rugged terrain in Europe, ia good history and fine adventure reading as well. Better maps would make the action easier to follow.
