Summary: A Fido that you don't feed
Review: A new meaning to the words "Pet Rock":

Lin Wellford has out-done herself again! I just can't get enough of her books! For those of you who have not read any of Lin Wellford's books, let me tell you, IT'S TIME TO START! In "Painting Pets on Rocks" you learn how to paint your dog, cat, fish, and even your pet bird! The book doesn't just show you one type of dog, or only one cat. Lin gives you instructions on how to create many different rock pets. From Dalmations to bulldogs, tabby cat to siamese...this book has it all.

Even if you have never painted before, you can do these projects. The book has full color, nearly step by step photos with the step by step instructions. As with all Lin Wellford books, her instructions are written for the beginner and it is amazing how well your pet rocks come out.

Summary: All "How-To" Books Should Be So Clear!
Review: As in her other books, Lin Wellford's love of animals and painting shines through her work. I enjoy just looking at her photos of her creations, so full of the spirit of the animals she has painted. This book focuses on cats and a variety of breeds of dogs. Rather than being repetitious, there are so many variations that each project presents additional techniques and ideas. Her clarity and easy-to-follow instructions inspire confidence - a "Gee, I can do that!" attitude in even those that doubt their artistic abilities. Although painting on rocks is especially charming (and inexpensive!) these animals can also be used as decorations on other surfaces, such as boxes and glasses. But the multi-dimensional rock painting gives the user a grasp of what is really going on in a way that flat painting doesn't. I only wish she had put in more information about how to paint the chimpanzee, iguanas, hedgehogs and ferrets. (Perhaps next volume) Really a splendid book!

Summary: I Wish I Had Thought of This
Review: I am the least artistic person in the world. Stick men are really deserving of a place in a French museum if you ask me. So when my wife and kids said we are going to do some painting as a family project I laughed and figured we were changing the color of the bedroom.

But alas, we started to pick up ballast on the beach only to be transported home in a bag to be transformed into cute little rock pets. Amazing, simply amazing. Although mine looks like a toad with a tumor everyone else in the family followed the guide of this terrific book and created creatures that look like they could crawl away.

We have since purchased other books by this author and I am presently deciding how to re-support my house as a result of the additional 4000 pounds of rocks in the living room. I have tried to do other rock art but have decided to watch my kids or browse through the book. I could look at these pictures all day. They are amazing. Boy I admire people who can do this kind of stuff. Get this book to create but get it to simply say WOW what an imagination some people have.

Summary: ANYONE UP FOR A ROCK PARTY!??
Review: I couldn't help it, it sounded so fascinating when I was invited to a "rock party". A friend held it, and all of us got together at her place. She had a bunch of field rock, (though I've heard smooth river rock is good also) and she had cleaned them all up and they sat, waiting on her front step. We took turns choosing the rock that "spoke to us" and brought it into the house for some good old fashioned gossip and a fun project with friends. Oh, yes, we had doubts! Halfway through those rocks were UGLY, and we took a few chip and salsa breaks so we could look at them from a distance (they looked better that way- Laugh!). But- amazingly enough- when we finished the last step, perfectly outlined in the book- our rocks looked GREAT!! I actually DISPLAY mine in my little rock garden, and get so many comments on their "uniqueness". What a fun idea! And takes almost no $ to get started, if you're like me, you already have the simple materials lying around from previous projects!! Great book, simple instructions, great tips and pointers- even for the novice.

Summary: wonderful book
Review: It has beautiful painted rocks in it and shows just how easy it is to paint rocks. I am not a real good painter but, I do plan to give it a try. Instructions and ideas in this book are great even for a beginner like me.
