Summary: Dissapointing
Review: A lot of pictures are marred by jarring background colors (eg p.83, 29, 53) or poor detail(eg p.125, 72, 31, 61). Numerous pages look a bit like poorly-done color photocopies (eg p.26, 61, 105, 120). The artifacts of overzealous image manipulation are apparent throughout. Nothing to do with rare orchids: many of the included plants are among those more commonly cultivated. I enjoyed the (clear) pictures of and self-descriptions by the orchid-people near the end of the book (pp.138-139). If you are looking for an orchid coffee-table book, compare first with Peter Arnold's stylish and well produced _Orchids_ (1994).

Summary: Excellent gift !
Review: I purchased this book for fathers day and could not be happier. Chock full of gorgeous blooms in vivid color, professionally photographed. Fear not you will be pleased.

Summary: disappointing
Review: This would be a good coffee table book. Most of the orchids highlighted are fairly common to orchid growers. This would be a good book for someone who is not familier with orchids. It is over priced for the information that it contains. I would suggest waiting until it shows up on a discount table. I would not invest any money for this book.
