Summary: A must for all who enjoy mosaics or who want to learn how.
Review: "Mosaics in an Afternoon" is a wonderful book for anyone who enjoys doing or even just looking at mosaics. Ms. Sheerin's text is of comfort to the novice; but is not condescending to the expert. Clear and concise, it leads the reader through all the steps. The accompanying photographs add greatly to the learning process. I can't wait to begin my first big project, and thanks to Connie Sheerin, it will be far less daunting!

Summary: fantastic!
Review: Connie Sheerin's book provides us with clear, concise instructions to create imaginative projects! Her bathroom backsplashes are really so special and she has a wonderful sense of color and pattern. For anyone interested in the art of mosaic, this book is the one to buy.

Summary: Boutique style projects
Review: Connie Sheerin's particular artistic style shows through in these projects which for the most part have a gift-shop, feminine, country-home look. They are very pretty, with other materials besides tiles incorporated into her pieces. Dressing up her pots, vases, pitchers, frames, shelves, etc., are marble "jewels", shells, dried flowers, and painted plaster figurines such as angels, fruits and vegetables. These give her creations a look distinctive from other mosaic books, and require different steps to complete, in particular preparing the figurines for use. There are also a few very nice projects, such as backsplashes, that rely solely on tiles.

There is no preparatory instruction on how to cut tiles, so it is assumed you already know how to use your cutting tools. However, these projects do not focus on cut tiles. Many of them use the objects mentioned above with pre-cut square and round tiles, and many broken pieces of plates, glass, and tiles.

The author's work is very professional and the projects are lovely. I especially like the frame of broken glass, but my taste for a classic mosaic look with more traditional tile designs, leads me to rely more on other mosaic books for inspiration.

Summary: EASY AND FUN !
Review: I never thought that making such little works of art was so easy to accomplish, but it is. My friend bought this book and was kind enough to lend it to me, lets just say that was a month ago, I haven't let it out of my sight since. The projects are easy and the outcome is always rewarding. There are some real cute ideas for kids aswell. The step by step instructions are very easy and the items used are things laying around the house anyways. I transformed all my flower pots to little individual master pieces. It is also something fun for my 3 yr. old to do. If you have bored kids and plain flower pots, this book will help!

Summary: What Fun!
Review: I read "Mosaics in an Afternoon" from cover to cover and was delighted! The writing is engaging and the directions for the projects clear. I loved Connie's description of her first mosaic project in macaroni! The true test of course, is using the book. Using the instructions on page 24 for the "direct method", I completed a mosaic picture frame and found it easy for me, a relative beginner. Now I'm anxious to get to garage sales & estate sales to find old dishes to smash and 'ugly' items to embellish!
