Rating: Summary: Beatiful but impractical Review: I agree with several reviewers that Mrs. Stewart's new book is simply beautiful. But cookbooks have to be more than just beautiful, and unfortunately Mrs. Stewart's book doesn't meet my needs. A great deal of her appetizer recipes require on-the-spot or just-before-serving preparations. When I have parties, I want to prepare as much as I can in advance so that I can enjoy myself. Therefore, it is unlikely that I will get to use the recipes in this book much.
Rating: Summary: A little bit of everything Review: I love the book. Wonderful pics (one for each recipe) and what I think is a good selection. Some things are pretty basic and others are more challenging. The recipes I've tried so far (especially the beef tenderloin roll-ups) have been great. I especially like the suggested menus in back for diff. types of parties. Of course, there's going to be plenty of fru-fru in there, too, but isn't that why everyone likes Martha?
Rating: Summary: Martha Stewart's Hors D'ouvres Handbook Review: This is a beautiful book riddled with errors. It is just about impossible to cook shrimp and then devein them. Are the editors afraid to edit?
Rating: Summary: Martha has done it again! Review: This is a wonderful book. It is so informative and interesting. I highly recommend this book. The pictures are beautiful. Great job Martha!
Rating: Summary: Beautiful book but the print is fairly small & hard to read Review: This book is beautiful but one of the downfalls is that theprint is quite small and light making it hard to read especially whilecooking. Also, I don't care for the separation of pictures in onehalf and the recipes in the other half. So far, the recipes I have tried we have enjoyed.
Rating: Summary: Unrealistic recipes Review: The book has wonderfull pictures and great instructions but I found most of the ingrediants are unusual and would be difficult to find. Several of the recipes take longer and are more difficult to prepare then the meal. I regret paying so much for the book.
Rating: Summary: Fussy and time consuming Review: Although this book is beautiful and packed with recipes, each one requires more time and careful composition than most of us have before a party. Typical Martha! I suppose if I were bringing one hors d'oeuvre to a party I could carefully put together one of these creations, but when I entertain I'm also doing the dinner and dessert and usually I put out several hors d'oeuvres. You might as well get this book from the library and peruse it for the few recipes you might make -- it certainly won't become a frequent reference unless you have a kitchen staff.
Rating: Summary: english overview of very american book Review: I am English. From an English viewpoint the book is very American - but i mean that as a compliment! Unusual ideas and elaborate presentation just about sum it up. Where does anyone find the time to do things the Martha Stewart way? I certainly don't. Even so, I enjoyed reading it almost like a novel from cover to cover, and it is a beautiful book.
Rating: Summary: This is the prettiest book I have ever bought. Review: There are the best pictures of how the dish is to be presented and the most satisfying easy, step-by-step directions of any Martha Stewart book so far.
Rating: Summary: Martha does it again! Yipppppppppeeeeeeee! Review: Perhaps her best work to date (Despite the bizzare pictures which accompany each chapter). Her drink recipes are a special treat! Each day I get home and make a large serving of her "cooly-nutty-vodka-toddy". I put it in one of those sports bottle things and spend the rest of the night drinking it down! Outstanding!
