Summary: Buy this book *BEFORE* buying a puupy
Review: This highly readable book is chock full of great tips on selecting the right puppy for you, and great tips on nurturing, training, and raising an all-star dog. The advice is proven, trustable, and the book is a really enjoyable read. The Monks of New Skete are well regarded in the dog world and are known for their breeding and training of championship German Shepards (the principles in the book apply to all breads).

The book is best read before buying a pup, but it's also useful for existing puppy owners that want advice and guidance on raising a dog.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must for 1st time puppy owners
Review: Far and away the best puppy training book out. Using the simple and suprisingly obvious methods, our Golden became the perfect companion. Anything but a 5 star rating for this book is ludicrous.

Summary: Very Helpful
Review: I have read many books on dog training and found many to say the same general ideas. The one that stood out the most and seemed to explain everything the best was The Art of Raising a Puppy. This book helps understand your puppy since before you even acquire him. It's the only book I refer back to when raising my now 6 month old chocolate lab. A must for anyone planning on getting a dog.

Summary: This is the dog training bible
Review: Don't believe all the other books, and don't bother buying any other dog training book... This book teaches it all to you. I walk my dog all over San Francisco Ca off leash just on voice command and we never have any problems, and he is a hi-energy frisbee dog.

Summary: Great insight, must have for puppy shoppers
Review: Here you have a group of people dedicated themselves on training one breed of dog. They tell you how you can do the same for your puppy. It is a standard that no one else can fulfill, but a good one so that you know what you will be doing wrong, as a choice but not as accidents.
The book gives great insights on why dogs behave the way they do and a successful way to introduce the puppy into your life.

Summary: For new owners
Review: Neither my husband nor I had ever owned a dog before, much less a puppy. We relied on the two books by the Monks of New Skete for our own training as new owners. I cannot recommend them highly enough. These books are for all dogs, not just Shepherds.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Simple advice on complex subjects
Review: This is an excellent source of easy-to-follow advices on how to mold the behaviour of a newly arrived puppy. I have successfuly applied several of their suggested practices. Most highly recommended.

Summary: Getting a puppy? This is a "must read." Lots of good info!
Review: If you are getting a puppy, or thinking of getting a puppy, you should read this book. While the first few chapeters are about one of thier dog's birthing process, the other information in the book is invaluable. Not sure how to pick a puppy from a litter...this book will help you do some tests to help determine a suitable one. Not sure what to look for in a breeder....they have good information here too. It covers how to reasonably deal with common puppy problems as well a house breaking and early basic obedience training (sit, come, stay, down). Great information to help you pick a wonderful companion.

Summary: The Art of Raising a Puppy
Review: I would recommend this book to anyone that is thinking about getting a puppy. If you already own a puppy this book can help you solve problems you are already having or poss. help you avoid problems.

Summary: A must buy book for dog owners
Review: Your dog doesn't have to be a puppy to benefit from this book. I have trained three dogs using this book and all my dogs are well mannered and do NOT pee or poop in the house. This is the most humane training book I have ever found. I tell everyone to get it and the videos! I cannot speak highly enough about how this book will improve your relationship with your dog or puppy. Don't pass this book up.
