Summary: One of the best dog training books for puppy owners.
Review: After losing my older dog and waiting for delivery of a new puppy I bought and read this book. As a dog owner for life I have learned more from this book than any other. It provides a serious yet lighthearted study of the joyful fun one can have with an animal. It is also a wonderful read.

Summary: Our Great Dog is the Best Compliment for this Book
Review: After reading this thoroughly enjoyable book and following it word for word in training our lab, we have also lent it to other puppy owners who have been similarily successful. Our family and friends are always amazed by how well-trained and well-behaved our Miller is and we have Ms. Benhamin's book to thank for giving us the right direction and motivation for working with our dog. I'm about to buy a couple more copies for Christmas gifts!

Summary: Excellent!!
Review: As a professional dog trainer, I keep this book in stock. Frequently clients come to me with problems they themselves have caused - their dogs cannot be blamed. "Mother Knows Best" explains, in simple and funny language, how to raise the dog that you want. Carol Lea Benjamin is THE BEST dog author around.

Summary: Incredible Book
Review: As a trainer of Assistance Dogs for persons with disabilities this book has been the foundation of my training methods and I have been using it since I started with my own pet dogs at the age of 15. It is very well written and the basic concept... WONDERFUL!

Summary: Best all-around puppy training book on the market
Review: Buy this book before you get a puppy.

Benjamin's humanistic approach to puppy-raising is a great antidote to the scourges of abusive training on one hand and mindless cookie bribing on the other. It is common sense, no-nonsense, and humane. Her writing style is animate, personal, and friendly, and puts the reader at ease -- you will feel like this is not rocket science, and you are fully competent to take on the task of raising a civilized puppy who will make a great companion. Even Benjamin's cartoon illustrations lend a great deal to the supportive tone of the text. A puppy is supposed to be *fun.*

I'd like to see a better treatment of some alternative tools and techniques in this book -- for example, the head halter, a great tool for use by people who aren't good at giving collar corrections. But Benjamin's philosophy and approach are dead-on, and can help the reader develop a great relationship with a pet dog.

Summary: excellent and easy
Review: I am a first time dog owner and had no idea how to narrow the vastness of dog/puppy training books down to one decent book. My breeder recommended this book to me. This book is fun to read, very easy to follow, very thorough, and takes you through the process in the correct order (so you don't have to read the entire book to begin your training!) An added bonus: the author has a great sense of humor.

Summary: A must for any dog-owner's end table!
Review: I first read this book years ago, when raising my own pup. I've read lots of books on dog behavior and training, Carol Benjamin's is BY FAR the very best! I'm purchasing one today as a gift to a friend who has a new puppy.

Summary: This Is A Great Book, No Matter How Old Your Dog Is!
Review: I got this book because I wanted to help a relative with training her new puppy. I was surprised to find that the book not only helped me with training the puppy, but it gave me new insight into our 12 year old mix-breed dog too. This should definately be on the shelf of anyone interested in training or owning a dog. A must-have for any dog lover.
