Summary: Worth a look with an open mind
Review: I purchased this book because I've decided to make some lifestyle changes before I have children. I'm a new homeowner and becoming more aware that the little decisions I make each day have an impact on my community and future family.

I'm enjoying learning and experimenting with the recipes in this book. My church recently had a cleaning day and I mixed up a few cleaning solutions based on the recipes or inspired by the recipes. I was not taken seriously by most people but I can tell you that I enjoyed cleaning with these safe solutions. One mom of six really appreciated that her helpful kids were not exposed to harmful chemicals. Consequently, I got loads of help on my projects.

I just washed a beloved, but very grimy wooden and wrought iron patio set with baking soda and a very diluted castile soap solution. Who would have thought that these homemade products would cut through the grease, grime, and mildew and restore my set to looking new again? Inspired by the book I rubbed the set down with olive oil instead of smelly mink oil that I've used in the past. After it "bakes into the wood" out in the sun tomorrow I'll enjoy sitting outside once again. In the past I would have felt guilty spraying who-knows-what in my front yard or may not have undertaken cleaning it at all.

Thanks Karen. I look forward to learning more and slowly changing my habits.

Make the investment in your health and the health of your loved ones and get a copy of this book (or one like it). Even if you change one cleaning habit it will make a great impact.

Note: Mark you favorites. They may be difficult to find again. The recipes could be better organized.

Summary: Great Book for Natural Cleaning
Review: I researched several books of this type before purchasing this title, and I couldn't be more pleased. If you are looking for simple to make, effective, inexpensive, safe cleaning products to make at home, then this is the book for you. It is well-organized and informative. It is easy to follow and does not require you to purchase odd ingredients, plus it educates you on the nasty realities of the commercial cleaners you've been using for years. I actually look forward to cleaning days now, as my house smells crisp and fresh, not chlorine and chemical-like. I also do not worry about harsh solvents that my children might get into. I am saving money, saving the environment and have a sparkling house, car, laundry, and baths to show for it.

Summary: Easy and effective cleaning receipes are enjoyable to use!
Review: I was thrilled to stumble across Karen Logan's book shortly after my son was born. I started to avoid cleaning because I detested using most household cleaners due to the harsh chemicals. I was also very concerned about my son's second-hand exposure or worse - possible direct contact. Karen's book educated me about the hazards of commericial cleaners and then taught me how to make my own simple and safe cleaners right in my kitchen. This information showed me that harsh cleaners are unnecessary and more important what natural products would produce similar results. Making my own products is also entertaining and educational for my toddler who is now able to "help" clean and I don't waste precious naptime on toilet bowls and bath tubs! Her receipes are very easy to follow and are effective!!! I gave away all my commericial products almost two years ago and have not gone back to one of them. It's so comforting to know that my family is no longer exposed to harmful cleaners and we are doing our part in protecting the environment.

Summary: An honest, positive take on green cleaning
Review: Karen Noonan Logan has put together an extremely useful, honest recipe book for green cleaning products.

It is honest in that she rates the effectiveness of each formula provided, and not all of them are 95s or 100s (comparable to commercial cleaners). In fact, there are several in the book that aren't that effective, but at least they don't poison you.

However, the majority of her recipes *are* effective and very easy to make. Logan writes matter-of-factly, but with a positive style. It's not like reading a textbook or cookbook at all; you are entertained as you read.

There is a broad enough range of recipes that you can clean nearly anything, but not so many that you can't figure out which recipe to make for which cleaning job.

In contrast, I found that Annie Berthold-Bond's book "Clean and Green" was too cluttered by a confusing array of recipes, some of which are so specialized many people will probably never use them. Also, her writing style is far too dry to really be enjoyable.

If you really, really need a weird stain out of your clothes and don't want to reach for the bleach or stain stick, you may want to pick up "Clean and Green." But for just cleaning floors, tile, windows, etc. it is *much* easier to use the simple, multi-purpose recipes in "Clean House, Clean Planet."

Summary: Simple, easy recipes!
Review: My friend and I made most of the major recipes in this book in the course of a few hours! We found all the ingredients at the market, health food store and Target. We both went home and cleaned our houses top to bottom and were amazed at the results. I thought for sure the glass cleaner wouldn't work - boy, was I surprised! I have since bought several copies of the book to give away to friends and family. My friends with young children really love the recipes! Most importantly for me, these products smell divine! I feel like I am perfuming my house rather than cleaning. My kitchen smells softly of lemons, and my bathroom has a lovely, light, lavender aroma. From now on I'm cleaning the natural, non-toxic, better smelling way!

Summary: This book will change your life!
Review: Okay, maybe that's a bit of hyperbole, but this is really an excellent book with numerous recipes for your own cleaning products. I use many of them and they really work well with the added benefit of being non-toxic. I tell as many people as will listen about how wonderful homemade cleaning products can be. They're easy and fun to make, inexpensive and good for you and the environment. I'm a convert!

Other reviewers complained that they cannot contact the author to buy labels or bottles. I designed my own labels on my computer and covered them with clear contact paper so the colors wouldn't run if they got wet.

Buy this book, you will not regret it!

Summary: Good Buy
Review: The recipes are so easy my 13 yr.old and 11 yr. old daughters can make them !!!! With 6 children in the house we use cleaning products ALOT of times each day. Now I have no worry or fear. I also like that she lists some store products that you can buy(like...Bon Ami and Spray & Wash Stain Stick) that are not as harsh to people and the environment as other products are. She also has alot of extras in here than just cleaning products. Making your own costs less, better for you and environment and her recipes REALLY work =) I def. recommend!
