Rating: Summary: Waste of time... Review: Great, a no talent AKC judge whose claim to fame is getting pets ( not his ) into the movies thinks he can train dogs. Well, he can't, and that's pretty obvious from his crappy writing.Save yourself some money and skip this one!
Rating: Summary: I HAVE MUCH EXCITEMENT Review: I've read through this book and found it a decent book for ideas about various tricks to teach your dog. However, it gives you very little info about how to train your dog! Nor does it prepare the unitiated with the typical responses that you might expect from your dog during the initial training phases, or how to react to various situations. Finally, the book is dated. Written in the late 70s it doesn't cover newer trainer methods. Some of there methods could really use updating (i.e. there is very little in the way of motivational training, mostly corrective training is used. If you and your dog want to have fun shouldn't it be a little less work for them?). I highly suggest skipping over this book, unless you need help in new trick ideas and are confident that you and your pooch can work well together. There are a few other books out there that are newer and stress the fun aspect of dog tricks much better than this one did.
Rating: Summary: This book is a blast! Review: If you have a smart dog (like my Bo Diddley-LOL!) you will love teaching the tricks described in this book to the delight of your friends and family!! What a fun book!!
Rating: Summary: a fun AND educational book! Review: Many books exist about understanding and training dogs. But THIS one is something else! The whole slant of Dog Tricks involves how to teach you and your dog how to have fun with each other in clever and amusing ways. Everything from training your dog how to give you a kiss (begin with a smear of butter on your cheek!) to snatching (and running away with) your chess opponent's rook is covered with a wonderful mix of elegant simplicity and silly shared amusement. Dog Tricks is really the one book to get if you want to learn the potential of "a really good time with a dog!"
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money! Review: Sorry, this book is total garbage. It was written as a cutsie atempt to package old training techs. that didn't work very well in a new shiny package to line the author's pocket. If you've attended *one* basic obedience class anywhere, you know more than the author - save you money, there are tons of good books about dog tricks. This is not one of them, however!
Rating: Summary: A fun and inexpensive hobby you and Fido will love! Review: The director for the largest school of theatrical dogs on the E.C. demonstrates how to teach nearly 100 tricks you and your dog will enjoy performing together. The book easliy divides tricks into related classes. Also includes an aptitude chart to help the novice select the easiest tricks for his dog. Basic obedience training is not included in this book but is necessary for some of the tricks.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: This book teaches an owner how to teach fun tricks to the dog. It is easy to understand and easy to teach. Tricks help make better dogs.
Rating: Summary: Great book, nice ideas, lack some detail Review: This is an almost complete training book. It give some nice ideas to train your dog. The amount of "tricks" given is very nice. Some of them are easy to teach, some are extremely hard. The info is prersented in a humorous way making the book not only good for teaching these behaviors but also fun to read. I can not say this is a complete book because it doesn't explain ways to deal with some basics problems that all trainers, myself included, encounter. For this reason I don't recomend this book to a beginer trainer. Experienced trainers will appreciate all the ideas presented. It give some entertaining ways to spend time with your dog.
Rating: Summary: Abuse your dog to make him do tricks? No thanks! Review: Written by a very old trainer with the old "make your dog do it or else" attitude. What fun is this for the dog? Motivational training has come a long way in the past 30 years, but this author has chosen to totally ignore new and more humane methods of dog training. If you used some of these training "tricks" in modern obedience classes, you'd be asked to leave the class - or else they'd call the cops on you. Cruel training methods and a lot of bad advice, all in one book. What a bargain!
