Summary: Katherine Dewey is a fabulous sculptor
Review:
This book is great for anyone interested in sculpting with polymer clay.
Katherine Deweys instructions are fairly easy to follow, the only thing that confused me was that you sometimes can't tell from the photos, which way she's holding the clay. (So you're not sure where to place your appliques).
None the less it is a great book for beginners and amateurs alike, and I would definately recommend it.
I would have liked to see some basic patterns for some different animals, perhaps some more common in other parts of the world, seeing as we don't really get any of those specific animals here in Australia. (I wanted to make a dog!)

Summary: Great book
Review: I am a beginner of Polymer clay and this book does not intimidate me. The techniques she offers and the tools are simple and easy to understand. I would highly recommend this book.

Summary: A "Must Have" for Polymer Clay Enthusiasts
Review: Katherine Dewey has worked magic with this book. The instructions are clear and thorough enough that a even a beginning sculptor would be able to create wonderful likenesses of the animals portrayed.

For those more familiar with the aspects of polymer clay and sculpting, this book contains valuable information and techniques that may be applied to an artist's own work; thereby improving its strength and quality. Katherine's use of armatures and proportion is well explained and portrayed, making this book an excellent learning resource for beginning sculptors, as well as a superb reference tool for advanced sculptors.

Summary: Thank you Kathy Dewey
Review: Katherine Dewey writes clear concise instructions that can befollowed by experienced sculptors, rank beginners, adults, kids, anyone! I especially appreciate (as a former art teacher) her tips and advice on taking her basics and going in your own direction.

Summary: ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL
Review: This book is so great. The step by step details were so well photographed, and so detailed. The animals are so cute and so life-like. Katherine has so many suggestions on tools, from making your own to purchasing them. This was my first attempt at realistic animals. I've all ready made three of the cutest little animals, and everyone is asking where I bought them. I LOVE this book!

Summary: If you think sculpting is difficult, try this one
Review: This is a book for all people who are afraid to start sculpting animals. This teaches it all, and so easily you would think that sculpting is easy. Many really good projects, very good basic instructions about polymer clay, and some really nifty tools to make. A definate must have if you want to learn sculpting.

Summary: Dewey is extremely talented!
Review: To be honest, I didn't purchase this book to learn how to sculpt animals. I had to have it because of the wonderful techniques presented for sculpting ANY figures. While reading the book, I kept finding myself thinking, "So that's how they do it..."

The only thing that bothers me about this book is that the animals are sculpted in solid colored clays and then painted to achieve their realistic looks. I would much rather sculpt using different colors of clay on the surface instead of paint.

Overall, this is an exciting book to have in my collection. The deer and the frog are among my favorite projects. In addition, Dewey gives very easy instructions (and photos!) on making armatures and piecing together a complex sculpture.

I read somewhere that Katherine is coming out with a book on making fantasy figures... I can't wait for that one!
