Rating: Summary: Everyone should own this. Review: Excellent, easy-to-learn techniques for pretty bookbinding...in an ugly paperback. So I guess you can't judge a book by it's cover?? And form does indeed follow function?? HA!
Rating: Summary: Unispiring Review: I bought this book based on the great recommendations it was given, however, as a new person to book binding, I was surprised to find myself BORED with this book.Out of the whole book there was only one project, maybe that seemed interesting. The pictures were beautiful, but the projects seemed dull and the end result was not very good. It was easy directions, but I didnt think that would mean the end product would also look so simplistic. If your looking to try projects that look beautiful and artistic, I dont recommend this book, but if your looking for a basic overview of the book binding proces then maybe this would be of help to you.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Book!! Review: I was fairly new to bookbinding when I purchased this book-and it has really expanded my knowledge of bookbinding. It has wonderful and inspiring photos throughout the book.I would highly recommend this to anyone.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: I'm new to book making and read other reviews that convinced me to buy this one - glad I did. It has great instructions, lots of pictures, drawings that illustrate how to do things and such a wide variety of techniques and types of books to make. Filled with great ideas. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Resource Review: In my quest to find new and unique projects to make myself, I stumbled across this book, and I'm really glad I did. Though some of the books are a little "over the top", it's packed full of great ideas that will motivate and inspire. The instructions are clear and concise and there are some truly beautifully photographed books in here. Most of the materials will be easy to find, and the very first book to make is made with copy paper and a needle and thread. I see myself making at least a half a dozen books in here.

Rating: Summary: One of the Best Review: One of the best books to date on book binding and journal construction. Laplantz is a popular instructor who travels extensively teaching workshops across the nation. This book is a compilation of her favorite techniques, beautifully illustrated and packed with photographs of samples done by the author and other artists.Laplantz'focus on construction techniques offers a thorough investigation of the various binding techniques. This is a good book for beginners or intermediate paper artists.
Rating: Summary: A good start for the beginner; inspiration for the skilled Review: Shereen LaPlantz approaches the subject of making books with an artistic awareness. She provides a clear introduction to the parts of a book, materials, tools, and basic techniques. She then provides step-by-step instructions on how to make each type, from the simple pamphlet to the highly unusual bindings. The instructions are easy to follow and are accompanied by clear illustrations. The most remarkable aspect of this book is its pages filled with beautiful color photographs of books made by the author and several artists. I bought this text because I was interested in making a simple binding for a family history book, but after reading Cover to Cover, I have a new perspective on bookmaking - I now see it as a form of art with a whole range of possibilities. And it's an art which is accessable to all.
Rating: Summary: Clear, detailed and inspiring Review: This is a beautiful book that will provide plenty of inspiration for both new and experienced bookbinders. The book begins by explaining the basic structure of a book and then sets your imagination loose. It contains a number of different bindings from the very simple to the more complex with clear instructions and illustrations. The illustrations for stitching were particularly helpful for me. Cover to Cover is great for beginners, as it starts with some very basic bindings (i.e. pamphlet stitch), but the gallery of artist books should make up the difference for the more advanced artist. Building upon the basic bindings explained earlier, the artist books are whimsical, creative, and lots of fun. Sometimes when I'm stuck for inspiration, I use this book to kick-start my creativity. Definitely get a copy of this book!
