Rating: Summary: Beautiful book for the somewhat experienced Review: I just received my copy of this book today. The designs they have in the book are simply breathtaking. Alot of crystal (my absolute favourite beads. However, this book is defiantely not for a beginning beader unless you are VERY good at following diagrams. They do give detailed instructions, but they are not in an easy step by step format. You will need to have some beading experience and a good idea of thread patterns before beginning most of the projects. I am a beginning beader but I can't wait to give some of the designs a try. Absolutely STUNNNING Jewelry!
Rating: Summary: 5 Star Designs with 2 Star Instructions Review: i ordered this book simply because it was published by ondori. i have many of their books on other needlework and textile techniques and was curious about what they would do with beads. what they do with beads is marvelous. whatever age or skill level, a beader is sure to find something (or, more accurately, several somethings) to make. there is a nice range of skill levels and there are designs which will appeal to children, teens, and adults. there are bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces--any of which could be adapted to clothing embellishment or different beads. there are really clever methods of varying chains, etc. there are unusual color combinations. there are written instructions and graphs. the graphs are very good. the only problem with the instructions is that the beads are identified by millimeter size (not as czech seed, or japanese seed or delica [which is actually a brand name])--but your local bead store should be able to help. ordering this book this was a gamble that definitely paid off.
Rating: Summary: so many beautiful ideas--and english text Review: i ordered this book simply because it was published by ondori. i have many of their books on other needlework and textile techniques and was curious about what they would do with beads. what they do with beads is marvelous. whatever age or skill level, a beader is sure to find something (or, more accurately, several somethings) to make. there is a nice range of skill levels and there are designs which will appeal to children, teens, and adults. there are bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces--any of which could be adapted to clothing embellishment or different beads. there are really clever methods of varying chains, etc. there are unusual color combinations. there are written instructions and graphs. the graphs are very good. the only problem with the instructions is that the beads are identified by millimeter size (not as czech seed, or japanese seed or delica [which is actually a brand name])--but your local bead store should be able to help. ordering this book this was a gamble that definitely paid off.
Rating: Summary: Fun, Elegant Designs Review: Sweet! Stuffed full of fun, elegant designs - amazing what's crammed into 80 pages. Inspiring photos, complete lists of materials and tools, clear diagrams. Some U.S. beaders unfamiliar with two-needle beadwork may find the diagrams confusing (a previous reviewer, for instance), but they're actually quite concise and thorough. A genuine little treasure trove of beautiful bead designs.
Rating: Summary: I highly recommend this book! Review: This book has amazing ideas and designs that are easy to follow. I am a self taught beader with no "real" skills. I was able to follow 90% of the patterns in this book no problem. I use all czech fire polish facteted beads, swarovski crystals, and japanese seed & bugle beads. This book is worth it!
Rating: Summary: 5 Star Designs with 2 Star Instructions Review: This book has lovely arty pictures of beautiful designs, but the photos are not always clear enough to make the design clear. The instructions are in the back of the book in tiny print and black and white graphs. In several cases the thread paths are hard to follow; in at least one diagram the arrows appear to show the thread running clockwise and counterclockwise simultaneously. An experienced beader could probably work the patterns out, and many of the designs would be well worth the effort.
Rating: Summary: Fun, Elegant Designs Review: This is a great book for beaders to have, though I am a fan of all Japanese inspired designs. Being a seasoned beader, I did not have trouble following the patterns, but definitely not recommended if you are a beginner beader.
