Summary: A decorating book in black and white?
Review: At first I thought I'd bought a decorating book printed in black and white, but then I discovered that Pottery Barn had simply designed all the rooms without color. What were they thinking? This was a big disappointment.

Summary: Lovely
Review: I fell for it and I'm sorry. I like looking at Pottery Barn catalogs so I thought this book would be interesting. It's not. "Pottery Barn" and "style" don't go together because Pottery Barn sells a canned look whereas style is all about doing your own thing today and not buying into a canned look. Pottery Barn should keep selling furniture and stay out of trying to do decorating books. This one falls flat. It's downright dreary.

Summary: Middle of the road
Review: I have read/used three of the Pottery Barn books listed in order of my opinion of them: Baths, Living Rooms, and Bedrooms. Baths was very good, with beautiful photographs, interesting and innovative ideas, and some useful design advice. Most of the book provided a several page showcase for an individual bath with discussion of what made it special.

Living rooms was OK. It's content was more canned, but it still had some inspiration and enough ideas that were useful that although I would not put it amongst the best such books, it was worth an hour or two to browse.

Bedrooms hit the bottom of the list for me. The content seemed especially canned. The ideas were not fully developed and most of them appeared to me more appropriate to someone's first apartment than an established home (so it just needs the right audience?). Lot's of the pictures involved just using eclectic pieces and did not involve actually developing a decorative theme.

Summary: Great decorating ideas!
Review: I received a copy of the Living Rooms book for Christmas and found it not just great to look at, but full of really useful ideas. I love to change around the furniture in my home, and give the rooms a new look, and this book is full of terrific decorating tips. Unlike lots of other interior design books, which can be a lot of fluff, the text is worth reading and the photos really show you how to make beautiful rooms (without assuming you've got endless time and money.)
I hadn't really considered myself a Pottery Barn fan before, but I certainly am now. I ended up buying the Bathrooms book, too, and it's just as good. I definitely recommend this book!

Summary: Achieving Calm
Review: I think Pottery Barn livingrooms gives clear, memorable design ideas that all point to achieving a sense of calm in your nest. Beyond that they show you how to mix textures, periods and shapes to make your space interesting. And maybe best of all they give us rooms that are nicely edited so that every special detail, or object's qualities can be appreciated. It's a very good guide to good taste.

Summary: Pottery Barn Living Rooms
Review: Recently purchased this book, and then purchased the other two books, Bathrooms and Bedrooms. These are wonderful books, full of great new ideas. Pottery Barn has always been inspirational, but they take it to a whole new level with these books. I found them really helpful - they took me throught the key concepts in decorating and styling, and I've learned a lot from each of these high-quality books.

Summary: Haven't put this down yet!
Review: Since I bought this book a week ago, I've barely been able to put it down. While in the process of re-decorating our home, there are so many great ideas...from paint colors, to arranging furniture, creating rooms within rooms (see page 33), etc.

If you don't like the Pottery Barn look, you may not be able to appreciate this book.

If you like the PB style (informal, clean, soothing colors, organized, comfortable), then you'll LOVE this book and will not be disappointed.

Summary: Pottery Barn Living Rooms
Review: This is a nice book with lots of ideas for decorating, arranging furniture, and colors. After reading it, I definately had a better idea of what to do with my own home.

Summary: Drab and colorless
Review: What's up with the lack of color in this book? It looks so drab and colorless. Brown, white, black, brown, white black. You'd think they could have been more creative in their photography. I was expecting so much more in terms of ideas and color and freshness, so I was disappointed big-time when I opened up this book.
