Rating: Summary: We're regularly in the prize line-up since reading this book Review: I compete at a novice level in eventing, and ride in dressage and jumping events in the off-season - but never very succesfully. However, since reading this book, and trying to apply Ms Savoie's principles, my horse and I almost always find ourselves lining up to collect prizes. Although this book explains the basic principles of riding in a readable and simple style, Ms Savoie provides as comprehensive an introduction to the subject as I've seen anywhere. The illustrations are pertinent, and contribute significantly to understanding the text. Often, when I am struggling with a problem with my horse, I go back to this book for assistance - and invariably there is something that helps. I've recently bought Ms Savoie's sequel to this book, such is the confidence that I now have in her writing!
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!!!! This is a Fantastic book for any discipline! Review: I ordered this book to get me started in teaching my 10 year old trail horse the basics in dressage. I could not put it down!! I am still finding myself going back and reviewing the different methods of the basics for not only training my horse, but to better myself as a rider. This book is excellent for anyone wanting to teach their horse the basics in riding any type of discipline. Don't let the word dressage fool you. You need to teach your horse the basics of dressage to get off to the right start in any type of riding that you do. I highly reccommend this book.
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTE BEGINNER TO DRESSAGE GAINED GREATER KNOWLEDGE Review: I read this book in anticipation of my first dressage lesson, and have gained great insight into this beautiful form of communicating with your horse. I now understand how to get the horse to respond to those invisible cues and why they do. I believe this book is perfect for anyone wanting to effectively and humanely communicate with their horse!
Rating: Summary: Excellent and down to earth! Review: I recently purchased this book and I love it! I read over 100 pages the first day! Jane explains importance of the half-halt, balance, forwardness and softness and how to acheive it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to truly understand dressage and why dressage training is so important -- no matter what discipline you ride.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I'm a firm believer in the need for collection/self carriage in every discipline and this book gets you there! It is nicely written, simple and straightforward. Your horse's longevity will appreciate it.
Rating: Summary: A must read for all riders! Review: No matter what your dicipline, this is THE book to read if you want to make your horse balenced, supple, and easier to ride! Jane Savioe writes in a very clear and concise way. As a dressage rider I admire her use of the tranining scale and German system. All the dressage theory in the world doesn't help if you can't put it into practice on less than perfect horses! I also highly reccomend her second book as well. The description of the half halt is the best I've seen. These books are a good reference source for the pleasure rider, and as a complament to a lesson program. I can tell from experience that it is easier to do a little reading now then to go back and fix mistakes later!
Rating: Summary: Cross Train Your Horse: Simple dreesage for Every Horse Review: This is an excellent book. It is very informative and she explains all the steps, for what every level of riding you can do. I am very pleased with this book. Thanks, Jane
Rating: Summary: Dressage for everyone! Review: What a wonderful book! It is hands down the most brillaint and useful book on my shelf. Jane Savoie gives specific examples of who uses dressage in their training (even if they are driving or in a western saddle!) and the beautiful results, even in the lower levels. Whatever your sport happens to be, a strong dressage foundation is a must for success. The book is well organized and has beautiful, clear photograpic examples. It's one of those rare horse books that you read cover to cover because every chapter applies to every rider and disapline.
Rating: Summary: This book is absolutely worth more!!! Review: What a wonderful book! Jane Savoie has done a wonderful job at telling the basics and the setup of the book makes it easy to go back and review... I've read other "teaching" books but this one seemed to really make me understand dressage much better. Also, answered many questions I had..now dressage makes even more sense! Bravo!
Rating: Summary: IF YOU WANT TO RIDE...READ THIS BOOK Review: Whether you work with a trainer or not, this book is for all of those people who want to ride. Period. No matter what the discipline, this book is for you. If you don't work with a trainer, it explains all the basic and important concepts which a rider must have in order to keep the rider safe, the horse safe, and to get the horse to do what you want. If you do work with a trainer, it just reinforces what you already know, but with wonderful new ways of understanding exactly why the aids are so important for the horse and how the rider can best acquire these aids. Beginners and experienced riders alike will enjoy this book. It is easy to read and very informative.
