Rating: Summary: Help Review: A phone number or e-mail address is needed. I did everything but I need help.
Rating: Summary: It worked but patience is required Review: I don't usually go in for the latest and greatest pet trends (raw diets, monogrammed sweaters, isoloation treatment, etc.), but after feeling that horrible kitty litter crunch under my feet for the umpteenth time, I decided that this was worth a try. Rosco (my Russian Blue) didn't take too well to it at first, but eventually he started to catch on. The pictures are very instructive and helpful, but a tad on the graphic side...not for young children, I would say. I was very excited at the prospect of saving some kitty litter cash...but I quickly gave up on that plan when I realized that the increased toilet paper usage was more than making up for any litter savings.
Rating: Summary: Works - but _not_ in 21 days Review: I think some kitties might be able to be trained in 21 days, but not all. The most important part of this book is praise and patience! I trained my three kitties but it took longer than 21 days, more like 2 months. If your kitties don't like it you have to go slower. I agree that this book could really use a web site or 800 number or _something_ for when you have questions. Maybe we should start a support group? :> Anyway, after reading how awful kitty litter is for cats (not to mention the environment) almost anything is better than changing the litter every day. Even occasional setbacks.
Rating: Summary: It worked but patience is required Review: I was skeptical about trying to toilet train my then-four-year-old cat. But with plenty of patience and persistence (and a few unpleasant setbacks), it did work. It took about four months, a dedicated bathroom, and the alternate method described in the book, but it was so worth it. We have not had a litter box in our home since then, and that was four years ago. When my cat had surgery recently and could not jump, I gave her a temporary litter box, which she took to immediately. However, once she recovered, and I removed the litter box and pointed the way to the toilet, she returned to her toilet-trained habits. I know she would prefer a litter box but she knows the toilet is what she is supposed to use and she does that consistently. It took a bit longer (a few years) for her to realize that all toilets are for the same purpose, but now that she has figured that out, she is ready for a road trip!
Rating: Summary: Helpful for Beginning... Review: Kunkel has lots of fascinating information about cats' elimination behavior and toilet training. Especially liked his point that it is no more normal or natural for a cat to go in the same LB over and over than to use the toilet. Cats often prefer a clean place each time they eliminate. Kunkel explains that an outdoor domestic cat may range around a mile from home in its daily travels-giving it a lot of real estate to use as its LB. Teaching an indoor cat to use the toilet gives it a clean place to use each time-which may be more natural for a cat than using a small LB.
While the book is helpful in getting started, many trainers need to discuss their training experiences with other trainers & get suggestions to overcome their initial cats' resistance-because cats are creatures of habit. Look for the group Cats' T-Training.
Rating: Summary: Fun book for cat owners, but it doesn't work Review: My experience with the instructions provided in this book was successful! After reading a few of the reviews where readers expressed dissatisfaction with this product, I must emphasize this: Read the book IN ITS ENTIRETY, and the actual day to day instructions TWICE through, before starting!I can agree that there are times when support would be great, such as in the case of my 7 month old adolescent cat shredding the saran wrap stretched over the toilet bowl in the later sections of the steps. HOWEVER, substiting a light disposable plastic plate worked! Also, try to schedule the days that switch from the box to the saran wrap/plate method on a weekend or some other time where you can MONITOR your pet's progress, and avert any disasters! Have patience, a little common sense, and a smidge of ingenuity, and this book will free you from litter scooping, as promised!

Rating: Summary: Fun book for cat owners, but it doesn't work Review: The illustrations in the book are cute and the writing is humorous. I gave the book three stars for the quality. However it lost two stars because this didn't work for us. We followed the instructions exactly. When your cat doesn't progress you're supposed to go back a step, which we did. After a month we finally got to the part where your supposed to put clear plastic over the toilet and spread some litter over it. Our cat just scratched the litter and the litter fell into the toilet. EVERY TIME. Your supposed to help your cat at this point as well. We also tried the alternate method in the book. She was just so stressed because she just didn't get it and she is a smart cat too. I gave this two more weeks with my cat who is one year old. I was just determined not to give up. I wish we had a dedicated bathroom for the training, because let me tell you, it really wore us out. We only have one bathroom. Everytime YOU want to use the toilet, you had to take off the tape, the plastic, the litter. Disgusting. The bathroom was a mess with litter on the floor. It gets wet and sticks to the floor. I had to sweep 3 times a day in there. I think you end up training your cat to not use the litter box and go on the floor instead before their bladder bursts. I could go on... My advice is don't even try this if you only have one bathroom!
Rating: Summary: Never try to teach a pig to sing. Review: There's an old saying: "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It waists your time and annoys the pig." Now replace pig with cat and sing with use the toilet. I spent nearly 2 months follwing the instructions in this book. First slowly bringing the litter box to the bathroom, raising it up to the toilet, and finally replacing the box on the toilet with kitty litter in plastic wrap. Now, I have a cat that hangs over the edge of her litter box so I though this would not be a leap. But kitty was not happy. The first day sans box she peed on the floor in front of the toilet. The second day she pooped. The thrid day she peed ON OUR BED! This, my friend, was a cat telling us she was not happy with the situation. So, the kitty box returned and we have had no further straying of toilet duties.
The book is cute and entertaining. Maybe you have a cat that will use the toilet. Not me. Neither of our two cats used the toilet.
Rating: Summary: Not all there Review: This book is good in that it gives you an idea about how to train your cat, but it misses some things. The last thing you want to do is take the chance that your cat will fall into the toilet. If that happens, your chances of success drop dramatically! With the method used in this book, that chance is raised. If you really want to know how to best toilet train your cat, there is a y-a-h-o-o group you can join for free. In addition to learning the best method, there are hundreds of folks that can give you advice for every problem you may encounter... like not keeping a rug in the bathroom because the cat will use that when the litter box is taken away. Also, if you want a residential automatic flusher, that information is in the group too. Good luck!
