Review: I just saw this on amazon's list,and I'm amazed.I have this book, which I bought, like, in another lifetime. It is old and dated, and there are many better and newer books on the market. Use this book only if you want your home to look as if it was decorated a decade ago. Otherwise, buy a newer book with fresher colors and designs.

Review: I'm sorry I bought this book. Opening it was like walking back in time. I did not know how old it was until I had already bought the book. The how-to is OK but the decorating ideas (styles, colors) are old and dated.

Review: If you are getting ready to spruce up your home with window treatments, bed coverings, pillows, or any other decorative accessories, this IS the guide you've been searching for. Using an open bound edge, for laying the book flat, Martha Vaughan and Phoebe Gaughan provide step by step, easy to understand directions that can give even the novice better than expected results. Each section gives clear, easy-to-follow techniques, and numerous diagrams. There are also 16 pages of color photos to help to inspire your creative side. I whole-heartedly recommend this book and consider it a great value.

Review: Since hiring an interior design expert was totally outside the realm of possibility for my budget, I decided, with great trepidation, to tackle the monumentus job of redesigning my living room. Although I had read several "Home Dec" how to books, and had a little sewing experience, I was still overwhelmed and intimidated by the prospect of taking on even a slip cover. I was pleasantly suprised to discover Simplicity's Simply the Best Home Decorating Book. The book gave me some great "simple" ideas for my home that even I could accomplish successfully. I would recommend this book as a great reference manual for any novice to expert "interior designer".

This covers everything you need to get started decorating you home with minimal sewing experiences. Chapters include choosing fabrics (this was expecially helpfull since I had no idea what the difference was between gingham and gabardine), sewing basics (a lifesaver for putting in a zipper), and chapters on windows, bedrooms, and accessories. This book would make a great gift for someone with little sewing experience who wants to do some of their own home decorating with fabric.

Chapters include choosing fabrics (this was expecially helpfull since I had no idea what the difference was between gingham and gabardine), sewing basics (a lifesaver for putting in a zipper), and chapters on windows, bedrooms, and accessories. This book would make a great gift for someone with little sewing experience who wants to do some of their own home decorating with fabric.

Review: When I got this book, I immediately noticed the value of the information offered. It has tons of details from fabric choices to what kind of tools to purchase. In the back it even offers "time saving" features which gives you ideas to use fabric in different ways from walls to glueing seams together to save time on sewing. The book places a lot of emphasis on certain things that beginners NEED to know. I am a beginner and have poured over tons of other books and nothing compares to this book in terms of teaching you how to do different techniques. Certainly, the fabric choices in this book are outdated, but use your imagination! You don't have to purchase the same fabric or color choices in this book. Purchase your own and use the outlines offered in this book. Even add your own. A great book to start with. Highly recommended!
