Summary: Green Iguana; The Ultimate Owner's Manual

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A "must read" if you want, or already own an iguana!
Review: I was getting an iguana for my fiance as a gift. I had NO idea what I needed to buy or how to care for an iguana. I looked through many other books & finally found this one. It will explain, from beginning to end, everything you could ever want to know about iguanas! From deciding if it is the right pet for you, to very detailed care specifications. So many people buy iguanas, not knowing what kind of housing requirements it needs or what kind of food could be toxic to them. I've known of iguana owners who have let their pet run free through the house, never once giving it appropriate lighting or food. Sadly enough, their iguanas died. Our iguana is now about 3 months old and has been so much fun! We took it to it's first vet appointment (which I read is a must!) and the vet says it's one of the healthiest one's she's ever seen! Because of this book, I was able to know what to look for when picking out a healthy iguana and am very careful on what I feed it. I have also learned that it can sometimes take up to 2 years to figure out if your iguana is male or female (that's why I keep using "it"). I not only recommend this book, but it is a "must read" for anyone who is thinking about owning an iguana! Signed--Newfound Iguana Lover

Summary: Best book on iguanas ever!
Review: If you really love iguanas, this is the book for you....more substance than fluff. I own many iguana books and have kept iguanas for over 10 years now. There are a lot of horrible books out there and only a few worth buying. This book is a GREAT one! It is thick, informative, entertaining, and accurate. Not only is it packed full of helpful research and care information, but it has a lot of stories from other iguana owners giving you an insight into the intelligence and range of personalities you will find in this wonderful, majestic reptile.

Summary: Great, but there is a better alternative.
Review: Living in the Florida Keys we have dealt extensively with discarded Iguanas - perhaps 15 or more. People buy them, and get rid of them constantly - and down here, in the semi-tropics, they can survive (with difficulty)in the wild.
Hatfield's book is good, but expensive. For about the same price you can get the excellent "Iguanas for Dummies" by Melissa Kaplan (she has long term, extensive personal experience with the animals, & maintains a website that is designed to help pet owners and potential iguana buyers - not just for selling books. You can also add "What's Wrong with My Iguana" by John Rossi M.A., D.V.M. and "Understanding Reptile Parasites" by Roger Klingenberg D.V.M. -it depends where you shop, and how detailed you want to get. You will have far more information (by getting the three less expensive titles) for the money. If money is no object, get them all.
We liked Hatfield's book, but he has apparently raised only one iguana - extremely well - and the rest is research. Kaplan's book is based on research & a lot of personal experience. The experience shows through - there are tidbits of information that have been useful to us that we have not found elsewhere.
If you get Kaplan's book or Hatfield's before you buy an iguana you will definately be doing yourself and your animal a favor. Hopefully, the book will talk you out of getting an iguana if you are somebody who is looking for an easy, inexpensive pet. We love the animals, but based on the rejections we've seen down here, and the complexity of raising the animals correctly, we would never recommend them for pets.
Whatever book you get, you will still need to find a good vet., and that is not easy. Things go wrong with iguanas that are not covered with specificity in any of these books. We have been unfortunate enough to encounter them.

Summary: an absolute "must read" for iguana owners
Review: Practically grew up with iguanas in the tropics. Your book is the answers to all the questions I had about caring for them here, in captivity and in Alaska of all places !I read hundreds of articles, books, and sifted through tons of info on "Iguana" sites on the Net, and I say your book is the absolute best to date, because it strikes a balance between hard scientific data and "hands-on" experience with iguanas in captivity and in the wild.
Looking forward to receiving your newsletter.

Summary: A Life Saver!
Review: Thank you, Mr. Hatfield, for writing "Green Iguana." Knowing absolutely nothing about caring for iguanas, but suddenly finding ourselves caregivers for not one, but two, hatchlings, my son and I began researching for help on the Internet. A few weeks later we received our first purchase to help guide us ... your book. We were able to immediately determine some of the problems we were encountering. By resolving these problems, we now have 2 healthy, separated iguanas. We were on the verge of loosing one of them and it took us weeks to return her to a healthy state. The information in your book not only saved her life but really both of their lives (as we would surely have continued making ignorant mistakes). We only wish for one thing more ... a video! We'd love to "see" some healthy iguanas being cared for. If you are a new iguana care-giver, look no more! Every question you have is answered in this book ... plus information you never guessed to ask!

Summary: Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual
Review: The best book about iguana care ever! Mr. Hatfield has made this book easy to read and loaded with information on the care requirements of green iguanas in great detail...from diet, housing, training and so much more! Not only, can you refer to this book, but also, Mr. Hatfield has extended an offer for a free anual news letter that he will be sending to everyone who has purchased his book...including up to date new info. on specific care, his travels and observation of iguanas in the wild, veterinary info. and more! He truly cares a great deal for these creatures as does everyone who purchases this book. The Ultimate Owner's Manual has more than twice as much information in it as the 3 iguana care books I already own! It is a MUST HAVE for anyone that is even considering owning a green iguana!

Summary: This is an excellent book!
Review: This book is really great. It has everything you ever wanted to know about iguanas. The book is easy and entertaining to read. The author's method of putting the book together was great and I especially like the anecdotes by other iguana owners that are throughout the book. It allows the reader to learn about other iguana owner's experiences with their pets. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and keep it handy as a reference whenever I need it. I highly recommend it.

Summary: A MUST read! This book should be called the iguana bible
Review: This book is the only book about the giant green iguana that I will recommend. In the whole book, there was no bad or outdated information. It's a beautiful, sensitive book written by a man who obviously loves iguanas. This book is entertaining, reading almost like a novel. I have read the entire thing 3 times, and I'm always checking something in it. If you have an iguana, or want one, this book is a must have. I can't stress it enough.
