Summary: Nice format of pieced block designs
Review: Buy this book if you enjoy collecting quilt block patterns, and would like to see some fresh updates on traditional ideas. There's also an interesting section on pieced border designs. If you're comfortable about calculating yardage, and cutting & piecing quilt blocks on your own, this book is fine. But if you're a beginner, or if you prefer to have more detailed assembly instructions, then pass this one up because you won't find it here.

Summary: Lovely to look at...
Review: I agree with many of the reviewers - I found it very difficult to work with the patterns (tracing, no seam allowances, no light/dark suggestions) and the instructions were a tad confusing. I haven't put together any quilts from this book. However, it's a great book to look at and dream.

Summary: Pretty but not practical.
Review: I loved just flipping through the book but after reading about actually getting started and putting it together... too complicated for me! Like other reviewers, I found that the lack of rotary cutter directions, templates sans seam allowances, and less than clear directions for piecing to be insurmountable problems for any but experienced, confident quilters. It is a beautiful book and very inspiring, though, so my recommendation is this: don't pass up the opportunity to check this one out at the library. Then watch for it to go on clearance and get a copy for yourself!

Summary: The book has good ideas but was complicated to translate.
Review: I took this book out from the library and enjoyed reading it. The directions are hard for me to translate to sewing as they are overwhelming. I am an experienced quilter but I would not use this book for rotary cut quilts or traditional piecing. I would however use it for foundation piecing. I found that the pictures of most of the blocks were a good base for foundation piecing . I like the spriral base of the binding as it does lie flat. I am considering adding this book to my library for foundation piecing but not traditional or rotary cut quilts.

Summary: Not impressed
Review: Not as impressed as I thought. This has some very nice examples in it, but no way of knowing how much fabric, how to cut and piece together. Very self explanitory. I was looking for something a bit more definitive for putting the blocks together.

Summary: This was worth purchasing for new quilting ideas.
Review: The book has 2 different photo color photographs showing an example of the blocks with piecing instructions beneath it. On the next page is a full diagram of the block that can be traced. The book is worth getting because the pictures of the blocks are so pretty & it can give user's new ideas for quilting. This book has so many choices and different combinations that will be useful for putting together new projects. The only bad thing is adding in the 1/4 inch inseam allowance to each piece of the block. The book is for experienced quilters because some of the blocks are applique designs or would require previous experience for sewing them together.

Summary: Lovely to look at...
Review: This book is a really great motivator. I am a novice at quilting : I am currently on my fifth one. Most of the quilts I have done were pretty simple designs and this book challenged me with more complex patterns. It has inspired me to create some interesting variations. I admit that the instructions are a bit confusing, but overall I think everyone can benefit from it. The blocks vary from very simple to complex. From beginners to experts, this one has something for us all......

Summary: Excellent source of info on basic and novelty quilt blocks!
Review: This book is an excellent source of information on basic quilt blocks and novelty blocks you may not have seen before. I like the borders shown and the different color options for each block. Information on making a bed-size quilt is given for each block. The book will lie flat since it has spiral binding. The only bad thing about the book is that you must trace the pattern pieces from a block picture and add seam allowances -- no actual pieces are charted. Overall, a good choice for any quilter's library.

Summary: Great Eye Candy - But Not For Beginners
Review: This is a large hardcover book with the pages spiral bound inside the cover so that the pages lay completely flat when the book is open. The big appeal of this book is played up in the title - the patterns are full size and can easily be traced onto plastic suitable for making templates. On the left side is a description of the block, sample images made up in two different color schemes, and the piecing instructions. The right hand page is the line drawing of the block with all of the pieces illustrated. In the beginning of each chapter, there are illustrations of sample projects that are very creative and attractive. My favorite section is the one on pieced borders. They seem like they would be a lot of work, but there are some beautiful patterns.

The book is beautifully illustrated and wonderful to look at, but it is only really usable for more experienced quilters. I would definitely steer a beginner away from this one. The piecing is very complicated on some of these patterns and there are no guidelines to help determine what the complexity level is on individual patterns. The piecing instructions are sparse and somewhat confusing. There is no discussion of fabric needs or advice on color arrangement, the only help being the visual illustrations. For a quilter with experience making templates and doing complicated piecing, this book has some wonderful blocks to play around with. I was looking at some of the blocks and thinking that they would be much easier to put together with the foundation piecing method and this would cut out some of the work having to make templates.

If you have been quilting awhile and enjoy a challenge, add it to your wish list.
