Rating: Summary: Loved the book Review: Extremely useful in rotary cutting all your pieces in a block w/o using TEMPLATES!!! The information has enabled me to graph out, figure out the measurements and rotary cut pieces for illustrations or pictures of block patterns(that have no instructions or are the wrong size). I already made 8 blocks. Plus the 2 pages on how to cut with the grain helped w/ keeping the blocks squared. I wish I had found this book before purchasing alot of other beginner books. This one covers rotary cutting, piecing, pressing, and finishing. Plus all the other sound adivce she gives. Also there are projects-easy to feathered star. Good illustrations, color photos. Also rotary cutting illustrations for lefty. It saved me alot of frustration and time, made quilting enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: I agree Review: I agree with all the reviews. This is a great book. It's a great beginners book that offers a lot of sound advice. BUT it is also a good book for experienced quilters. I had been quilting for over 10 years when I got the book, and I still learned a lot of new techniques. It especially helped with my pressing. I recommend buying the hard cover. I have the soft cover book and pages are falling out.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, thorough rotary quilter's book. Review: I have been quilting for 6 years and have avoided certain quilt patterns because I thought I'd need a template but Nancy shows us how to make those pieces so easily with a rotary cutter. Her instructions are concise and I appreciate her thoroughness. It's a book any quilter must have!
Rating: Summary: The BEST quilting book! Review: I have purchased numerous quilting books and this one is the absolute BEST! If you are a new quilter, this book is for you and if you are an experienced quilter, this book is for you too! It has great instructions, wonderful pictures to show you how to sew it and 12 projects to do. The project names are "Floating Stars", "Pine Tree Delight", "Campbell House", "Monkey Wrench Times 2", "Indian Puzzle", "Ferris Wheel Flowers", "Dancing Star Table Runner", "Square within a Square Miniature", "Country Potpourri", "A Celebration of Cats", "Black Star Eruption" and "Stars at an Angle". If you can afford only a few books, buy this one. It is that good.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for any beginning quilter! (I'm one) Review: I just began piecing quilts a month ago. I took one beginning class and read this book cover to cover. I have since pieced several wall hanging sized tops, all of which look so good my husband wants me to make each into full bed sized quilts. The instructions are thorough and well illustrated. It gives truly "fool proof" methods for cutting pieces for your own designs in simple to follow steps. I tend to use only proven patterns in all of my crafts (I'm afraid of disaster with my own designs), but with Rotary Magic's help I designed my first project and it came out beautifully. Thank you for such a wonderful addition to my craft library and the beginning of what will now be many years of happy quilting.
Rating: Summary: Highly practical... Review: I ordered several books when I decided to learn to quilt, and found this book to be one of the most practical. In particular, she provides a guide to brand names for rotary cutters, mats, and rulers, which I found to be extremely useful in deciding what to buy. The book is filled to the brim with very practical tips on everything from setting up your sewing room to use of the rotary cutter. The presentation of the material is very concise, with lots of charts and lists presented in an interesting way. This book was very helpful to me as a beginner, but I think it would be useful for intermediate to advanced quilters as well because of all the tips.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful basics and beyond quilting book! Review: I'm not a perfectionist sewer so I figured my attempts at quilting would be laughable. And they were. Thanks to this book, I learned simple, time-saving tricks that made even me, a questionable seamstress, produce great results. This isn't your usual quilting how-to book: it covers EVERY aspect to finish a great quilt top including pointing out common errors before you have a chance to make them. If you only buy one how-to-cut-and-piece book, this is it. For machine quilting, I looked to Robbie and Tony Fanning's book on machine quilting and haven't been disappointed since.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: This is a fabulous book!!!..I love all of Nancy's books and this one is one to which I refer constantly...Get this book and you won't be disappointed..
Rating: Summary: The BEST quilting book! Review: This is the clearest instruction book of ANY kind I have come across. You can tell the author is a real pro, because she gives excellent advice on all aspects of putting a quilt together. It is easy to read, with many quick-find tips on every page, and is loaded with very clear and useful how-to illustrations. The book inspires me to want to make beautiful quilts!
Rating: Summary: A great book - especially for beginners... Review: This was the first book I bought when I decided to try quilting for the first time. I'm very fortunate that I did. Since the book is easy to read and follow with some of the best illustrations, hints, tips and tricks you'll ever read on quilting, my passion for quilting grew with my progress. With this book I get great results even though I had never quilted before. This is still the book I return to again and again. And if all this wasn't enough, at the back of the book there are (12, I think) wonderful quilt projects to make with great instructions. I highly recommend this book, especially if you are new to quilting. But I think even an experienced quilter will find much in this book to improve her quilts greatly.
