Summary: All projects include templates and instructions
Review: "Marquetry" is the cutting and assembly of a variety of think woods (called veneers) to make a colorful pattern and showcase the beauty of wood. In Simple Marquetry, Mike Burton draws upon his more than forty years of experience and expertise to show the reader how to transform plan objects into esthetically impressive functional and decorative items with a series of easy-to-follow techniques. There is an extensive and basic "how-to" section for the novice, and one that does not require elaborate equipment or expensive setups. This is followed by fifteen projects ranging from a set of kitchen canisters embellished with rustic images to a striking contemporary design created by repeating geometric shapes. All projects include templates and detailed, step-by-step instructions which are augmented by photography. Simple Marquetry is ideal for the weekend hobbyist and a wonderful introduction to a specialized and enduringly beautiful craft.

Summary: simple is the key word
Review: I enjoyed the first 70 pages of the book. The author talked about technique, finishes, etc. I was disappointed in the the actual objects. The patterns were not full size and there were no measurments given. It was all sort of vague.

Plus, I understoof Marquetry to be with the use of scroll saws and coping saws. The author never even showed these techniques.

It was an interesting view, but NOT for the beginner wishing to learn the true art of marquetry. It is, indeed, "simple."

Summary: Expert Secerets of Marquetry
Review: Mike Burton has accomplished a feat that few author's ever accomplish. He has produced a "how to" manual that surpasses his original publication on Veneering. Mr burton has shared with his readers the techniques, tools, proper processes and product inter-actions seldom disclosed by an artist. The process is explained in such detail that failure is not even a consideration. Thanks Mike!!!!
