Description:

You don't need too much experience or too much time to transform worn-out items into colorful new furniture. In Fantastic Furniture in an Afternoon, author Mickey Baskett has assembled an appealing collection of 28 projects by various designers, each including step-by-step instructions, as well as painting patterns where necessary. Novices can handle most of the vibrantly hued small tables, stools, and chairs accented with simple swaths of bright colors that follow the pieces' natural divisions and feature easily copied designs, or they can stamp or stencil uncomplicated designs onto wood, wicker, or fabric. More experienced crafters can gold-leaf a pedestal table, glass-etch a coffee table, or try a more complex stencil. Styles tend toward the country, but several pieces have a more sophisticated look. This guide is similar in feeling to Baskett's Fantastic Furniture: Intriguing Paint Techniques & Projects but there are no duplications, and a few of the projects here incorporate very basic cover-up ideas rather than just painting techniques. --Amy Handy
